Really, bring up McClaren, what difference does it make anyway, might as well intimidate some people if your going to lose anyway...

The centre I would go after is Sheehan in Detroit, might take more than just Franny but...

I guess The President knows how to run hockey teams better than the 30 GMs in the league who could have kept or grabbed Richards for their squad giving up nothing in return.

Dropped him to the ECHL, he should have been with the Marlies instead they signed a whole bunch of AHL contracts and dumped our own draft picks to Orlando.

I've given you my synopsis of the Leafs roster: Phil and Dion have to go.

I couldn't agree with you more that this team is stagnant and needs a serious culture change. You accomplish that by moving both players. We're talking about two 7+ million dollar players here. They're suppose to be the best on the team and lead by example, at least on the ice.

With so much money tied up in guys like Komarov, Clarkson, Robidas, etc, moving these huge deals will help by leaps and bounds. I said it 10x yesterday, I like Bozak, JVR, Lupul, Kadri, and Nylander as a great start to your top 6. I also like Reilly and Gardiner a lot, and think both of those guys should each anchor a pairing in your top4 moving forward.

Moving out Dion and Kessel is about a culture change thats long overdue. IMO, these words "rebuild" and "retool" are semantics. To me, moving two players of this caliber IS the start to a rebuild. It doesn't mean have a fire sale, though. The team could still be competing next year and maybe be a wild card team depending on what happens, you never know.

As a sports fan, I obviously want to see the team I root for succeed. But as a human being, I'll never sign myself up for rooting for a team that intentionally wants to suck in the hopes that MAYBE they become better. Im not spending money as a fan to watch a team tank, and you shouldn't either. It's incredibly (frank)ed and dishonest to the people that keep these teams aflot: the fans.

You'll get a massive return for one of the games best shooters in Kessel, and a decent return for Dion despite all of his criticisms. It's a start. Lets say hypothetically both guys are moved at the deadline. Could players like Bozak or JVR still be moved in the right deals in the offseason? Of course. But don't willingly sign yourself up for that. One step at a time. Just because the leaders of this team have been unable to do their jobs doesnt mean everyone needs to go.

it's a valid argument. I just think the bolded statements are where i have the issue.

1)This top 6 is lacking a #1 centre (we aren't getting one for kessel). And has also proven to fail. Lupul is 32 and a bandaid, who knows how long nylander takes or what impact he has. Every player in that top 6 you mentioned, is horrendous defensively. Most on the leafs are.

Rielly and gardiner could both be in the top 4 IF dion is moved and franson. Otherwise i'd move gardiner if possible for a more defensive dman.

2) I think we get a good return for kessel, but it will be futures and not what everyone thinks. (Cue those who take this as me saying he sucks or won't get anything but a 3rd rounder). We will get a low pick in the 1st (only a contender or team on the uprise will deal for him) a very good prospect (see nylander for when/if they make an impact) and a young roster player.

It's just a discussion and it was a well thought out answer; we just have different philosophies.

this was all within the last week from the President:

1) trade our 1st pick (which is very very close to lottery) for Eric Staal.

2) Mike Richards is a 1st line centre, and the one we have been looking for

3) Wendel clark was an avg. 40 pt guy nothing more.

Take that as you will
