They have Jones tagged to replace Weber eventually. If you see how Poile has built his team through the years, he is not trading Jones. It is wishful thinking. Everyone would want Jones. - Champ
So Nashville is only interested in competing, not winning it all. I wonder how the fanbase would take that, if they only knew? |

Sounds good, depending on whatever else they want in addition to Franson of course. - The Shrike
I wouldn't give them anything more, then a 1 for 1. They should be given the opportunity to sign him first, before the deal is made.

yes, but for RoR?
it's pretty much a 3rd C ( not even sure they need him ) and 5/6 D?
I guess..I liked Emelin pre-Lucic knee on knee. - Garnie
Probably not ROR, more like McGinn for Emelin |

They don't have the team to win it all this year. There strength is their D (Jones is a big part of that) and their goalie. They might make a move for Vermette or Erat or Stewart or Strafford, not a Kessel move. - Champ
I really disagree. With Kessel (assuming we traded Jones) would give us a solid chance at going deep in the playoffs and wouldn't make us a favorite but it would be possible for a cup run. Nashville could get by without Jones if we add a Kessel, we have other strong D men and of course this is assuming Pekka returns healthy.
That being said, if it was a deal that waited until summer, I don't see DP trading Jones. It would have to be this season before the deadline. |

No, they want to build a winner through the draft and deals like they made for Neal. |

I don't think it gets to the epic Oilers/Buffalo stage. There is too much talent, currently on this team, and teams will pay to get those pieces. Look at the Oilers and Sabres and ask yourself, who in their mid to late 20's can they move to get a top end draft pick, or drafted player from last years lst round? Buffalo? Myers.....not much else. Edmonton? Maybe Eberle, but he has a big ticket for a young guy. So each team has one player that could be considered a commodity. The Leafs have many. Phaneuf, Kessel, JVR, Franson, Gardiner, then second tier players like Lupul, Santorelli, Winnik. These players will get you good prospects or draft picks in the top 2 rounds of the draft. It's why the rebuild can be enhanced and the Leafs can be back into playoff contention, within 3 years. - PrinceLH
i take hall, rnh, eberle (all 3-5 years younger than kessel) with MCDAVID or EICHEL and draisitl over our forwards going forward. Remember, we are just entering a rebuild. Only significant prospect we have up front is nylander.
We have rielly which tops anything they have and he will be a stud after the pain subides.
Goaltending will be determined. RIght now obviously bernier better. BUt i trade bernier so we'll see in a few years. Actually edmonton would be a great fit for bernier i've been thinking latley
with the cap space and upcoming draft (they added another 1st) i take edmonton anyday over our hot mess of a franchise

Well? They have to realize, you don't get something for nothing. You want a top 5 scorer? You pay the price. If not, lose in the first round again..... Wanna play with the big boys, then make your move to improve your team.

I couldn't see him trading Jones except for someone like Kessel. He drafted Jones for Trotz. Who do you think Lavi would rather have? |

agreed. nashville is young and shouldn't mess up their future by going for phil. They are a great team but overachieving and kessel doesn't put them ahead of some of the other top teams in the west. If they stay the course however, they will be much better off than going for broke with kessel

They might be happier, making it to the finals. You have to give, to get. Jones will be a top 2 defender, but it isn't this year, or possibly next. Weber will start to fall into the malaise of the early 30's defender and start to break down. In 3 years, Weber is 32. Not over the hill, but a step down from where he is now. So this is their window. Either sh!t or get off the pot!

I would rather have Kessel. I would risk the future at a shot this year. Even if we just made it to the finals. Other fans here disagree. They would rather build for the future and just take our chances with what we have now. |

The point is, if you start moving players like Taylor Hall and RNH, you are dismantling your future core, before they even hit 24. It's just moving pieces, for newer pieces, 3 or 4 years younger, with no guarantees.

If Calgary picked Mike Richards off of waivers, they'd still have $10 million in cap space left. |
