i think jvr falls under this. Lupul no, he is always hurt and that's a value crusher. Bozak is no more than a 2nd line centre at best. Phaneuf may garner a 1st and another piece but it will be a lower tier 1st. Bernier, JVR, Kessel are going to garner the best returns.
i don't think anyone on the leafs now outside of rielly will still be in their prime when we start to come out of a brutal rebuild (5 years min) - clark_griswold
I don't think it gets to the epic Oilers/Buffalo stage. There is too much talent, currently on this team, and teams will pay to get those pieces. Look at the Oilers and Sabres and ask yourself, who in their mid to late 20's can they move to get a top end draft pick, or drafted player from last years lst round? Buffalo? Myers.....not much else. Edmonton? Maybe Eberle, but he has a big ticket for a young guy. So each team has one player that could be considered a commodity. The Leafs have many. Phaneuf, Kessel, JVR, Franson, Gardiner, then second tier players like Lupul, Santorelli, Winnik. These players will get you good prospects or draft picks in the top 2 rounds of the draft. It's why the rebuild can be enhanced and the Leafs can be back into playoff contention, within 3 years.

Bad timing for Phaneuf...frig. - Garnie
They can pick up Eller and Emelin which is a better deal than Phaneuf. |

I don't want Ellis...I'd rather add and try to get Jones.
We have Rielly for what Ellis is going to bring...no? |

Actually, good time. It prevents him from playing in the next couple of weeks and gives the team a chance to struggle even more. Then he comes of the injured list, just in time for the hard part of the schedule and the trade deadline. Just think, a rested Phaneuf for some team to scoop up. Having a bad hand, won't prevent him from skating and doing drills.

it's never every player. clarkson, robidas, komarov all stay due to contracts. Rielly stays, Holland stays, sprinkle in some marlies etc. But the major pieces that are tradeable go. the goal is to bottom out as i see it - clark_griswold
kessel, jvr and phaneuf are the guys to move over the summer.
santorelli, fanson, winnick at the deadline
bozak, clarkson, lupul etc are just guys to fill the roster and hit the floor... if a team really wants one of them then giddy up but i doubt it |

Not if ROR or whomever they are targeting goes somewhere else....if they are going to try and make the playoffs they can't wait very long to get help if they start losing...trade deadline is too close to the end of the season for some teams trying to squeak in.

I can see Lupul going to a team like Boston, since they have a hole on the top 2 lines. You might get a good prospect, or a couple of second rounders. Bozak is a serviceable 2nd line centre, with a decent cap hit. When he's on, he can be pretty good. He may not be showing it right now, but he's someone that will get you assets. Clarkson? Boat anchor!

The question that Nashville has to ask, can we win it this year? If the answer is, yes, if we get more offense, then it's feasible to move a Seth Jones for a Phil Kessel. Seeing LA struggle and some of the other big western teams with holes to fill, may entice them to make that move. - PrinceLH
They don't have the team to win it all this year. There strength is their D (Jones is a big part of that) and their goalie. They might make a move for Vermette or Erat or Stewart or Strafford, not a Kessel move. |

The team said, week to week. That could be one week and I think that Colorado could wait a week or two for him, if they really want him.

But affordable and Eller is a decent 3rd liner. |

He could be replaced with a veteran, for the rest of this year. His upside is two to three years from now. Right now, Weber is in his prime and if they want to win with him, it has to be now.

A team going for it will not give prime assets. They will give you some draft picks and prospects. JVR is worth more than that in the off season. - Champ
depends. He is so affordable, teams could fit him in now and he's not a rental. It could be seen from both sides i agree though. |

It's been reported that they don't want Phaneuf. Probably Franson |

yes, but for RoR?
it's pretty much a 3rd C ( not even sure they need him ) and 5/6 D?
I guess..I liked Emelin pre-Lucic knee on knee. |

Then do it....Franson for ROR! Of course, they'd want to negotiate a deal with him first, before they pull that trigger.....have at it! |

I'd like to see Franson go to Detroit, give a me a different team to cheer for while we become TANK NATION. |

They have Jones tagged to replace Weber eventually. If you see how Poile has built his team through the years, he is not trading Jones. It is wishful thinking. Everyone would want Jones. |

Kessel deal could probably pry him away...if he thinks it will put them over the top.
Who knows. |
