But because Clarkson takes up the cap room of a top line wing and plays like Peter Worrell, Toronto is handcuffed by price/performance ratio.

Same issue with Letang in Pittsburgh. He's making #1 D money as a number 3 and it's limiting to the slotting of the D. Lots of players being miscast by their cap hit.

You assume he wins the cup if he stays with the Flyers. Whereas I think the Kings win the cup even without Richards.

Flyers won that trade hands down when you look at the players involved.

How are Simmonds and Schenn doing for you? 24th place?

They are doing very well for the Flyers, thank you.

I believe that only takes affect if he goes down to the AHL and is recalled on the recall waivers. At that point each team pays half of the salary remaining.
- alexander87

there is no re-entry waivers anymore. The team waiving is not on the hook for any salary if a waived player is claimed.

Imagine if Richards decided to Retire.............

Wouldn't that have like terrible consequences for LA?

What team bothers to put in a claim when they can grind the Kings to eat the cap hit in a trade? Sure, you may have to dish out a prospect, but I would rather do that than eat 5 years of his contract at full value right now.
- rmull905

Ya, I don't see many teams doing them a favour. I can see a bunch of teams interested in re-entry waivers at half his salary...but not so sure about full. As I write this, I can just feel the Leafs signing the papers.

No, if your team isn't good it doesn't matter. You always trade your star players if your record sucks.

Looks around. Does Buffalo take him?
- ImThatGuy

No chance. Too much money. too much term. Too little return. We already have that guy in Cody H. The "cups & experience" angle is why they gave Gionta a contract.
Potentially with Grigorenko and Reinhart looking for full time center minutes next year, I don't see it.

Sadly that's after they won 2 cups.
- puckhead17

and what is around Richards and Carter (which has nothing to do with the Flyers being he was traded to Columbus) has nothing to do with those cups? I would trade Richards for Simmonds, Schenn and a 2nd rounder that helped get Grossmann and Carter for Vorecek and two picks that became Couturier and Cousins any day of the week.

Our star players aren't our problem.. Jake and G top league in points. Simmonds top PP guy. It's just our defense. bunch of depth guys playing top pairing minutes

And if you win a cup with a good TEAM you're pretty much an all-star player for life.

At this point he has very little trade value ...I liked him when he has played for the flames but he seems to be sliding down the depth chart by better prospects ...I honestly see him as a throw in for a bigger deal or he just isn't resigned at all
- Redmile247

Just curious. I want the Sabres to get him, mainly because we have his younger brother, but I heard he was alright and is still young, so wasnt sure what his value would even be.
