When you already have $10 mil in the bank, yes they want to play in the show, not the AHL riding buses. |

I would take Franzen right now and overpay for him. Have you seen Chris Kunitz lately? |

Well, I mean, it's that case of D being a 6-man unit and the financial slotting being really important. Dion is being paid like a 1 and in reality he's probably more suited to be a 4. He's not a PP guy. He's a PK/17 minutes guy. That's probably worth 5.5M, not 7.
Letang is a another guy slotted poorly. He's a 3; a PP 'specialist' who is brutal 5v5 and otherwise is only a bit less risky than Sandis Ozolinsh. He's not a 1 although he's being paid at the 1 metric.
I know there aren't enough 1s to field 30 teams but if you're a real contender, you have three things: a 1C, a 1D, and a 1G. Toronto has none of those things. Pittsburgh has 1 two times. A team like LA? They have the slotting down. Anaheim is close. Colorado is close. The Habs need a 1C if they're going to win. It's kind of simple in a way yet so many teams attempt to leapfrog the constant.
Rebuild, yo. Toronto has been brutal; as long as they don't expose young players to the incredible expectation of Toronto, it can happen in three or four seasons. |

I agree with this, Richards helped the Kings win 2 cups. But, that does not mean the Flyers lost the trade. It is possible for both sides to be happy with what they got and feel like the trade was a win.
However, the number of cup won cannot be the criteria used to evaluate a trade, that's just dumb. I guess the JVR for L Schenn trade is even since neither team has won a cup yet.
The Flyers would not have won the cup with Richards and today, no one in their right mind would trade B Schenn and Simmonds for Richards. So I don't see how you can say the Flyers lost the trade. That just makes no sense. - flyav
That makes sense. Not that there's an award for winning trades or anything. It was a great trade for the Kings in that they won the ultimate prize on 2 occasions . If Mike Richards ends up a King for life and does sweet FA from this point on it was still a good move because they won a couple Cups.
From the Flyers point of view they have 2 quality if not superior players for years to come.
I'll back off my original post stating the Kings won the trade, but I won't say it was an unnecessary trade or not worth it. It was the classic futures for winning now trade that benefits both teams.
Of course one of those teams hasn't won anything aside from the assets. |

Amen. Edmonton has a tonne of great pieces that don't add up to poop when 2 of them are not 1D or starting goalie. |

Franzen plays like I wish James Neal would have played: stay onside, get open, hold the puck until there is a screen, and hit the net.
The typical James Neal shift was akin to Claude Lemieux; jump over the boards. Call someone a female dog. Read the play and see if the possibility to cheat up ice exists. Slash an opponent. Take off toward the offensive blue line. Collect the puck in the corner and protect it with the sharp, stalagmite-like extension of one's Koho elbow guards. Cycle the puck and get open; unleash a hard shot that goes wide.
As the wide shot breaks the opponent out of their zone and becomes an odd-man break, try to start a fight before it becomes a scoring chance. Wait around for when your meeting with NHL discipline officials is scheduled. Use the time off to perfect hair style.

Rebuild. Such an easy word to say. But (frank) the Leafs. One of a few teams that can ice the absolute pooptiest team and still sell out. Why not just (frank)ing do it properly? they aren't gonna lose any money. Take 3 years have a team that is around the middle of the pack when it comes to cap. Lose. Sell out. Ugh. |

Because that makes (frank)ing sense.
I don't think anyone gets that cap hit, because he signed the contract before the age of 35. |

"He will play any role given..."
Except the role of "leader" and "team player". Won't ever do what the teams ask in terms of putting the team first.

TO has to go for him or else admit they are tanking. Even if it means swinging a trade or placing someone else on waivers.
Can someone below TO pick him up and then trade him? Does the CBA allow that? |

If Richards retires before end of contract, especially in penultimate or last year, LA gets dinged with significant cap recapture penalty. |

I think it would be split based on cap savings v actual money, and then split between Philly and LA somehow.

Its confusing though since it was Philly who signed him to that contract and played time there as well. So would they both get hit with a recapture penalty? |

Isles have about 5-7 players who can play C, why would they claim Richards, makes no sense, now if he was a W maybe but doubt it....... |
