And even in the AHL, where the NHL's prospects, has been's and never will's play, they can't make more than $70,000 a year unless they've been around for a long time. With agent costs, taxes and union fees, they lose roughly 35-40% of that. Same with the NHL. The best athletes in the world obviously make the most money, but even a guy like Kaleta or McCormick, still playing in the NHL, bring home maybe 2-300k. Yes, a lot of money no doubt, but again they're deemed worthy of being in the best hockey league in the world and still make the kind of money a large business owner or surgeon might make.

Sean Avery wrote a pretty cool article a week or two ago putting into perspective what a cusp NHLer actually brings home. http://www.theplayerstrib...e.com/the-new-avery-rule/

Nice link, reading it now. I knew/know more or less that $1 million isn't $1 million but its a pretty good read so far.

Yet the same team we root for just signed a 31 year old for 5 years.

Nobody said that we shouldn't be signing 31 year olds. We shouldn't be acquring that 30 year old.

Is Hackett in net? If so he needs to come up large. Maybe the Pommer trade will help us in ways that we never thought about. Ugh... I am so ready for the draft.

I read somewhere Hackett might get the Oilers game.

I've never over-rated him, honestly. The fact he had 3 consecutive 1,000 yard seasons on a bad team with a crap QB says a lot though. You know who is over-rated? Andre Reed.

I did notice he was gone this year. Not only that but he is one of the most unique route-runners I have ever seen, if not one of the best. He dropped quite a few passes, fumbled at bad times and was never very fast but he played with a groin injury, through a groin injury for the better part of 3 seasons with Fitzpatrick as his QB and still put up 1k for 3 years in a row. 83 never did it 2 years in a row and if you go back and look at his numbers with a HoF QB, they really aren't impressive, let alone HoF worthy. And honestly, Jim Kelly's stats aren't that great either.

You put SJ13 on this past years Bills team and I'd argue we make the playoffs. He was sorely missed on a struggling offense and going forward was a great compliment to a young and solid receiving corps.

The NFL today is much different than it was when Kelly and Reed played. You can't really compare Reed to Johnson. It was a run heavy league when Reed and Kelly were here, and it's a pass heavy league now. Andre Reed is said to be one of the first "slot" receivers. He also had a high YAC for the time he played.

Yes, because the 31 year old we have is tearing up the league and will be doing such good things for the next 4 seasons, and plays such a defensively sound game, and has shown such amazing production without a top notch center, and....

Shall I stop?

I'd take Richards over Moulson 10 out of 10 times

EDIT: Dammit, I keep spelling Moulson wrong today...

With respect to both Moulson and Richards, in my view, we have done dumber things. I haven't been disappionted by Moulson and I can see why we might take a shot at Richards.

With respect to Richards, in my view, I wouldn't be heart-broken if we decided to pass. It is NOT a no brainer.

Bottom line: I'm taking an openminded attitude to the whole thing.

Oh, me too. I'm fine if they claim him, fine if they don't (more happy if Arizona or Edmonton claim him)

It's hard to argue that Richards wouldn't help a team that is dead last in PP and PK. It's easy to argue that that contract isn't worth it.

Would Hackett starting that game be the first real tank move that we've seen this year?

Andre Reed was great and yeah, I shouldn't be comparing the two. But Stevie was great when he was here. I didn't really mean to compare the two, and maybe you can't given the differences in the league then and now but if Reed is the best Bills receiver of all time, who is the second best? And no, it isn't Don Beebe, Eric Moulds or Lee Evans. I just think Stevie was highly under-rated and with a great QB would have easily put up close to 1,500/per those 3 years.

Sylvester is talking about the Isles trading for Stafford or Stewart. What do they have left we would want?

If we wanted a 2 it would have to be next year's 2. I'd take that.

Draft position. Infect them with our toxins, subtraction by addition. Truly diabolical

I stopped reading after this...

Actually I didn't but I can't stand the guy...

That being said with no first or second round pick this year there isn't much I would want from them

I'm not familiar with their farm system. Do they have any decent prospects that are close?

Meh. He played 16 seasons. For some reason, NFL players these days hardly make it 10, while back then, they easily made it past 10. I'm not trying to downplay him too hard, but his "stats" are a reflection of his time spent in the league. While its easy for everyone to say the league was different then, run-heavy as opposed to the pass-heavy league now, the league now also has a higher turnover on player/personnel and more games lost due to injury (this is just a personal observation and not fact).

Also, I know stats aren't the be all ends all but like the rest of the Bills SB team(s) (after the Giants game), he didn't "show up" or make the big play in any of the games. At least poor Don Beebe finally won one with GB (slight sarcasm but he made the best play in Bills SB history).

I would take Ho-Sang...

But their good prospects aren't being dealt for a pending UFA
