Unreal. Still 5 years $5.75M AAV

Only saves them $925K assuming he clears

- PhillySportsGuy

They must be really hoping he gets claimed

Yeah. I think the lesson is if you're not sure if you should use the CBO, you should probably use it.
- PhillySportsGuy

Does this mean Carter will piss and moan to get traded to whomever Richards gets moved to?

As a player, he has value, but not much with that contract. If the Kings could move, him, why place him on waivers?
- MJL

To test the level of interest. They could eat some the contract. Just saying he has value to some teams. Numbers could be worked out.

Not if they can move him. Have to see how this plays out. He has value to some teams.
- mickel25

Why trade for him when you can just claim him? Unless the team doesn't have cap space.

Test the level of interest? If anyone claims him, they lose him, and the level of interest doesn't matter. Anyone claiming him on waivers has to take on the full amount of the contract remaining.

Twitterverse saying they tried like hell to move him, but the last chance they had fell apart last night.

I doubt anyone will take him with that contract. Their best chance was a trade which brought back unwanted money. It appears there are no takers. Cap isn't going up much next season either and many GMs have talked about how difficult it's been to move guys with term.

If I am correct it would be prorated for the rest of this season, and then 4 years left at 5.75 mil?

That is a hard nut to swallow for any team for that production. I imagine he is going to the AHL?

Too little, too late. If I was in the Kings position, I would have bought him out if I thought his role would be 3rd line center or worse. He's not a bad player but not worth that deal. I guess they thought he'd become the 50+ point guy with the great defense again.

Our offer to take him for Vinny and Amac was shot down?

I guess so. I would love to see him play against the Phantoms in Allentown. The Monarchs visit on March 29.

LA is right up against it in regards to the cap. This move, if it goes through, will only saves them $925k. Thats how desperate they are.

Maybe they hope he gets claimed and if he doesn't, recall him again immediately.

Probably so, but I'm just wondering what the end game is here? Are they making room for an imminent trade? The Kings are in LTIR, correct?

clearing space so they can trade for Phaneuf

I think they're in LTIR for Voynov if I'm not mistaken.

I'm gonna mark that down because if Richards is playing in the AHL, I'd love to see him play.

He's not what he was, but he is definitely one of my favorite Flyers.

The sad part is I really want us to claim Richards. I await news of Hextall freeing up cap space any moment...

I would have bought him out as well. Just based on how far he slipped would have worried me moving forward.

How does that work with his NTC? Or does he have one? I hate that capgeek is gone. NHL Numbers just does not cut it.

God no. Umberger-Richards-Lecavalier is a 4th line worth $15M

I think NTCs are voided when the player is traded but don't quote me on that.

Obviously the freed up cap space would need to come from umberger, lecavalier, or Amac. My head says its a bad move, but my heart wants Richards back

Don't know if he has trade or movement clauses. When a player is traded, movement clauses are voided. A NTC would not prevent a team from waiving and demoting him. A NMC prevents a player from being demoted.

You would be happy up until you saw him play. He's not the player the Flyers had. Not even close. If the Flyers move Umberger, VL or Amac, it should be for players with fewer years left on their deals.
