Okay. AMac for Mike Richards ($1.5M retained)

caveat: LA must supply all of the coke, pills, alcohol, and C-grade (LA vintage) tang.

No, but a lot of the criticism was utter bullpoop. I've seen him in LA, too. he's definitely not the same player. Still a capable bottom 6 forward, but he's simply not worth the hit.
- Jsaquella

I don't even think he wanted to be captain when they named him captain. Same with Forsberg and Desjardins. I feel like they picked Richards because it was the chic thing to do at the time. Every team was picking their young stud to lead them for the next 15 years like an Yzerman. poop really only worked out for Chicago.

So he's third best out of 6 at being less terrible. That's worth 5 more years at $5M.

At least.

To be fair, Richards was a very good player for the Flyers and helped lead them to the finals. Say the Flyers win that series, I suspect he's still here.

That was the right thing to do. Toews is that guy. He's yelling at the bench, he's playing 200-foot hockey, he's staying poised. Getzlaf is more of the same.

Landeskog is an interesting Captain. Colorado may have gone with any of their young centers.

I really feel for Erik Karlsson. It has got to suck watching the Alfredsson video tribute as 'the greatest Senator of all time' with a sixteen year gap between his trophies having been named Captain so as to be lorded over Leafs Nation.

I would kiss Hextall if he could dump either of them for Richards.
- GOA88

They both have much better contracts and are about as good of a player as Richards is.

what if they took a bad contract back?? like a Vinny or Umberger? macdonald? In watching him in LA I really think he just hasn't been used the same way as he was here....I think he's the "type" of player the Flyers Lack...and by that I don't mean overpaid....lol...I never liked the trade...although it has worked out talent wise for the Flyers.

Just seeing this now.. I know he's struggled for a couple years in LA, but to be placed on waivers? That's kind of a shock to me. I wonder if there will be any takers, and if not, do they send him down?

Also, I thought he had a NMC?

- Hextall271

NMC got voided when he was traded to LA. I doubt anyone takes him on waivers and if they can't find a trade where they eat some cash, they will likely send him to the AHL, per Bob McKenzie & Pierre Lebrun

It adds unnecessary pressure and the team puts itself in a tough position if the player doesn't develop into a good captain.

might be true.....and sad because if the Flyers got the same goal tending that they got in the first 3 rounds of those playoff's they would have won the thing.

Nope. Not going to take on another 5 or 6 years at $5.75mm cap hit to hope he can regain his form. If he returns to his Philly form, he;s worth it, the guy who played in LA the last 2-3 seasons? He ain't worth it.

I think AHL move only saves them 975K....are they in that bad of shape cap wise?

Possible, Richards had also been a captain at every level, which also played a role in the decision.

I still think he can be a solid player for somebody, but it's a big risk with the salary and term
