So we'd give up Petry a very capable top 4 Dman, and a 1st rounder in a deep draft, for a 24 year old dman that can't even stay in the league?
- Ihatebrianburke

I did not say a first rounder...I said even up.

Shame the Islanders have never been able to recover from dealing that #1 pick.
- ses111

The draft hasn't even happened yet. Do you even understand what the concept of trading away future draft picks means? Some people should be euthanized so we don't have to read their stupidity on here

and this means we're in "win now at all costs" mode? Really? Because I'm looking at a team with all the pieces in place to stay together for several years. If Boychuk signs, that sets our defense for likely the next 5-6 years.

I don't think you have a good grasp on what win now means. It means the window is closing. Ours is just starting to open.

Exactly why I don't do it. Unless Hall falls in our lap, which of course he wont, Go to battle with what we have. Maybe a tweak here or there, but that's it!!

Who said win now "at all costs"? Your own words. Don't put them in my mouth.

Your GM pretty much put you in win now mode when he traded your 1st rounder away for magic beans.

I understand it, but do you understand the top prospects and young talent the Islanders still have on the NHL level? Not to mention the Islanders have plenty of Cap space and are moving into a new building so they will finally be able to sign quality FA's. Thank You for your concern though and take care.

Well I guess it's a good thing that we're winning a whole lot of hockey games then. You can keep UFA Jeff Petry if the price is one of our top 3 prospects. Unless the 1st rounder is YOURS, which it won't be.
- eichiefs9

i think the UFA part is the main issue i have with it...if they can lock him up for a few years, im not sure i would be so totally against that idea...

no interest in signing Petry when we have reinhart and pulock coming. Petry would be a bottom pairing guy with us, who's going to be looking to be paid 5-6 mil per. Doesn't make any sense.

this poor bastard has obviously been abused by Kevin Lowe for so long that he thinks drafting high is winning.
- Isles_since_6

Wow now Islanders fans are actually getting high and mighty with me? You do realize that your team picked 5th overall last year??? And that's with rental help. You would've been picking 1st had your GM not given up future picks. Either way. Your team hasn't won (frank) all lately either so get off your high horse.

Funny how all the Islander fans laugh off my proposal. If you guys don't get defensive help going into the playoffs you will be a 1st round knockout and the loss of your 1st rounder is gonna sting that much more.
- Ihatebrianburke

Bc it doesn't make sense for the islanders, maybe for the Oilers but not for isles, so if u think its a good trade, then that's in your mind. And just bc Pulock was picked in middle of the 1st means nothing, some players picked in later rounds or even gone undrafted have become better players than most drafted in 1st round, see where im going w/this, so your points are completely irrelevant...........

Again, back 2 the drawing board.........

How does moving into a new building make it so your team can sign free agents?

we'd be picking first? You mean if snow hadn't signed kulemin, grabovski, halak and traded for boychuk and leddy? So if he hadn't done his job and tried to improve the team we'd be picking first? If Nelson, Strome, Dehaan all weren't ready and playing at a high level we'd be picking first?

I'm correcting you, like I'd correct a dog that didn't understand it was behaving poorly. You got bent out of shape because we ripped your brilliant trade proposal that did nothing for the Isles and attempted to throw around comments that made no sense. Go have your hissy fit somewhere else.

Sorry bro but cant have majority of Dmen making $$$$ with not much room for other possible players. If Boychuk & Leddy resign, to go along w/Hammer, then Lee, Nelson, Strome will need extensions. Unless the cap continues to gradually increase every year, then that's a possibility.

Because they are moving out of a dump no top FA wanted to play in. They will be making a lot more money with a new building.

When your team acquired Thomas Vanek it was last year. He was a pending UFA. Thus making him a rental last year. Is your school system so sub par down there that you can't comprehend simple thoughts like this. Maybe the "no child left behind" thing was before your time because it clearly looks like you've been left in the dust with the rest of the window lickers by your education system.
