Is Phaneuf still going to be in the room to crank the Bieber tunes and make sure the team benefits from his inspirational leadership?

The leafs should not trade JVR. That would be a classic stupid leafs trade

That contract needs to stay with the Leafs.
- iTOLDu

i love the contract..so do other teams. If we go full TNT, he won't be valuable to us in 5 years. HE would fetch a ton for us right now. Power forward that isn't a rental still in his prime with a good deal. I know those are reasons for keeping him...but does keeping him on a bottom place team do anything for us?

classic stupid leafs is retooling when you need to rebuild. Or is it just me?

interesting news on Dion.. Hard to say of the leafs are better off or worse.
I lean towards being worse since someone has to play his minutes and that filters down the line.. at the moment I dont think the leafs have any prospects who can step in and be a decent option

hopefully the leafs are a little worse off

By far the best contract on the Leafs. 25 years old with room to get better, big fast player. There is absolutely no reason to trade him.

I would be ok with trading JVR but only if the return is fantastic. Multiple picks + prospect if the target team is gonna make a deep run.

They will get worse because the reason why Phaneuf is in the position he is in now (captain, highly paid, highest minutes) is because he's the best of a bunch of mediocre / bad / young defencemen.

I'm actually excited to see them without their "captain". I like Dion and I think he's a good number 2 and a great 3 but he is not a captain at all. I think the leafs players hate him as much as anyone.

other than the fact we have no use for him as a garbage team rebuilding.

I'm not arguing he isn't a great player with an attractive contact. But if you think he's going to help the current leafs more than futures/picks/prospects will a rebuild, i question it. You don't know how they will turn out, but we do know how this team will turn out i think that's pretty obvious

Sorry but no trading 25 and unders. Should be the mindset of any team looking to rebuild the team a bit.

i think you get a ton for him no doubt. So easy to deal. Keeping him on a sinking ship that is gonna take years to turn around when you can get a ton for him seems questionable...but that's just me

jvr is 26...drafted in 2007. Didn't want to get technical. Point is....he has lots of value but won't help us. He could be my favorite leaf but if im gm, he's gone at this deadline

I would tend to agree.. sometimes we see strange things happen though.

it will be nice to see the leafs team without him for a good stretch
