That means very little. They still need to be locked up long term. And theyre going to demand some coin |

Ya like every year, he can't handle big minutes, gets tired and starts to suck... That means he isn't a 7 million number 1 because other 7 million number1s don't tire out halfway through every year. Dion should be playing 18 minutes agate on the second pairing making 4-4.5 per year... - aminnes
Shea Weber doesnt make 7 million, that's for sure.. |

Like Clarkson? or Robidas? We will still have more than enough cap to sign those guys with the cap rising if lupul, gards, phaneuf, bozak, franson are all traded - DougGilmour_93
Bettman said cap likely at 72 million for next year... |

Kadri isn't 30 years old, and is already putting up good numbers.
So yeah. I want to sign Kadri to a 5 year deal..
It's pretty logical to hate the Richards deal, but want to sign Kadri long term.. |

Or trade a bad contract for Richards instead.
Just because he's free, doesnt mean it'd be a good move. His salary is god awful.
Especially with how tight we're gonna be, we have to lock up Kadri long term. And bernier. - jbold
I'd do Clarkson for Richards. The money cancels out, as does the term. At the end of the year, buy him out. Clarkson's contract is set up with signing bonuses that make it so you'd pay full price for him, on a buyout. Richards contract, I assume, would be at 2/3's. We could keep him for a year or two, as a roster player, while we rebuild, then buy him out, once we need the cap space. It's the only way that we go after Mike Richards.

I go back to what I said on Friday, it blows my mind people are still defending and making excuses for Phaneuf. This is just year one of that 7 year contract and he is getting beat every shift to the outside as he watches the player take the puck to the net and yet some of you think it will be a great deal moving forward? Can't wait.

We are not in Edmonton/buffalo territory. We are middle of the pack.
Dont kid yourself just because they couldnt score under the new system. - Fakepartofme
hmm...the last 4 years disagree with you...as do the current standings. Philly, minny , CBJ will pass us. That give us 6th overall. If NJD passes us, that's 5th.
mediocre is 15ish overall. not 3 bottom 8 finishes in 4 years my friend |

Exactly, any way you can get out of that deal you do it, but no one will ever take his contract, maybe if the Leafs gave up 3 first rounders... |

If Bernier isn't proven to some of you guys, you really need to reassess your personal concept of what that is. Too much wanting cake and eating it too here.
Bernier is only going to get better on top of how good he already is with a wickedly terrible D in front of him. Want to look back in Year 3 of his contract and smile about having a great value for the next 4 seasons?
6 years @ 5m and you don't even hesitate to push that across the table to him and his gorgeous hair. |

I don't know what this means... I hope your not comparing Dion to Weber...
- aminnes
It hurts, how clueless you are.
Weber, a true number 1 Dman, makes 8 million dollars and is signed til 2026. Where he'll 40 and still making 7+ million.
Dion on the other hand, is a top pairing guy who has no partner, and makes 7 million dollars. Isn't signed nearly as long.
So tell me, you're trying to say Dion isnt worth 7 million? Look around the league and look at comparables who signed recently. |

Richard's numbers are going down. There's a chance he might rebound on a weaker team that'd give him more ice time... but given the Leaf's cap situation, and the length of his contract, picking him up would be too much of a risk.
As it stands, I don't think the Leafs can pick him up and still be cap compliant. |
