Just proves me more right.

Leafs should follow Phillys footsteps when it came to Carter/Richards.

Unload them for top picks/players when their value is still high.

Schenn, Couts, Voracek, Simmonds. For Carter, and some bum who is on waivers.

Neither of which would have helped L.A win the cup that year.
Carter and Richards did.

- Fakepartofme

That's nice. Doesn't mean it was a bad trade for Philly.

Philly got some nice pieces. Too bad their GM then (frank)ed up the rest of their team.

Voracek is one of the top scorers in the league today. And Couts is one of the best shutdown C's
- jbold

They have won two cups and will be contenders again for one this year. I don't think they are regretting anything at this point...

you know phili is horrible this year right?

id take the 2 cups over someone having a career year and a few 45-50 point players.

Again. Don't get why fans don't get this.

Just because LA won a cup, doesn't mean it was a bad trade for Philly.

Who won them two cups...hockeys not all about scoring titles. It's about winning the cup multiple times. Richards and Carter provided that.

Not saying it was a bad trade for Philly. I'm saying the trade worked out for both. Obviously more for LA because they won two cups.

Ah. Awesome.

Philly is horrible because of what they didnt after those trades.

Still can't believe people don't see it.

Ah well.

Richards for Simmonds and Schenn was a steal. Regardless if LA won a cup

Has anyone said that was a bad trade for Philly? Or did they say it was a good deal for L.A.? You can have mutually beneficial deals.

Yeah, same logic that says Boston won the cup because of the Kessel trade.
- Aetherial

I dont think anyone has ever said that.

That's cool.

If we traded David Clarkson for Cam Fowler, and then Anahiem won the cup the next season, it means Toronto made a mistake with that trade?

No one said it was bad trade for philly.

It was a good trade for both teams.....its ok if a trade benefits both teams

Plus they got Jeff Carter.
Richards actually played quite well during the first cup win

- Fakepartofme

Don't worry. Richards will be our #1 center. He's only got 15 points because of the depth on LA. Nothing to do with his play. Nothing at all.

Leafs should pick him up.
Nobody is getting moved until the off season. 9 points from the playoffs with still a half season to go. Might as well try...

They were expected to be a bubble team and that's where they will finish.

go Habs go

I got laughed at when I said the Leafs should follow phillys footsteps and trade good players when their value is high, for good pieces.

Their reasoning? LA won 2 cups from players who played for Philly and look where Philly is now.

They don't understand that doesnt suck because of those trades, they suck because their defense is horrible/coaching.

Please point out where I said philly made a mistake? I said it worked out perfect for LA. Two cups Richards and Carter were big parts of it. Win-win

I'd take the cups too but it was still a good trade for Philly.

they have bad D, bad goaltending, and forewards like the leafs who tend to play a 1 way game or idiots who take dumb penalties/fight

yes they got some decent players in return, but 2, two, TWO cup victories trumps any trade.

everyone see's the trade, it was a good trade in terms of stocking up for the future and killing the team at the time.

smart move by LA.... I'm guessing Edmonton claims him.

that would be one angry hockey player... moving to Edmonton... might just be what both Richards and the Oilers need.

Doesn't answer my question though, who said that was a bad deal for Philly?

I agree with you that Toronto needs to do something similar. This clearly isn't working.
