Pretty sure it'd have something to do with dogging it when it counts and only trying when there is no one checking him...

And it isn't exactly a stretch to think Kessel dogged it on purpose on the all star game to avoid just such a line of criticism from the media every day until he finally does break his scori slump in a game that matters.

If they get one of the two top picks they won't be a mess. They will have a great young core up front and then you start filling in the holes of bottam 6 with cheap vets to add leadership etc. I think I would trade our mess for theirs.

it's because the leafs draft guys based on the fact that they think they are guaranteed to play in the nhl in a certain spot. look at 09 when they drafted devane, thinking he is a guaranteed 4th liner. look who was drafted right after him, reilly smith. drafted gauthier cause they think he is a lock for #3C, people drafted after him, burakovsky, shinkaruk, theodore. moved up in 2011 to draft biggs, thinking he is guaranteed to be a 2nd liner power forward, missed out on gibson and saad. they go for what they view as a lock, not guys who have skill and character who will want to exceed their expectations.

Some with sustainable presence. They're getting better at it I think. 2006 was a year where all but one player has now played more than 40 NHL games, which is impressive. Lets hope for more of that.

But a game where there was no defense, and nobody had to put any effort in, I figure would have been the perfect game for Phil to succeed.
