He would be better. He needs to be in a role of second fiddle.

Yep. Ideally he's a #3

I'm thinking if Richards was movable for an asset that would have been done already. I'd be surprised if they got a 1st but time will tell
- Bieksa#3

I still think they're trying to do a trade for ROR. It's ridiculous that ROR at 23 is already getting big money, when he should be on a bridge contract for half of that. He's overpaid at 6 million. He'll want a raise on his next contract. Thanks Calgary!

But I would rather have him at $6.5-$7 for 7 years than Dion for $7 for 7 years. Team will be better with ROR and Dion gone.

He will get a raise if he deserves a raise. He's great defensively and scored 30 goals and 60 points at age 22. He's a good player. Dosnt deserve 6.5 right now but I don't think that will have anything to do with a new contract. To me he's a great starting point to help build a better core.

Dallas seems interested in Dion as well. Has the cap room. Take in Hemsky's contract and we could get a healthy return

29 goals and Kessel didn't get 1.
- Leafland

Well his goal scoring wasn't like it normally is but at least his backchecking was.

Hopefully he is and we get a first out of LA and a parting gift of Napa Valley wine and some California citrus.

I'm not so sure. There may be a couple of other pieces moving in that transaction. I would love to get my hands on their first rounder. It will be around the 12 mark, but it's one more cheap lottery ticket for McDavid. You can still get a decent player at 12. Maybe take ROR and their first, for Dion and Bozak.

Dion is simply worth more than Mike Richards. Yes, we can do better.
- RogerRoeper

Agreed. You'll probably get a 1st and a solid prospect....but you will have to poop contract back to get that return. It's the only way anyone could afford it.

4 million over three years for a player who plays on the 4th and 3rd line. Yes it's a cap dump. Dion already has more value then you think. A number 2 d man.

Exactly, the only possible scenario for Dion where the club doesn't eat it is for Richards... I don't think people get that it means paying Dion at least a mil until 2021, that is messed the bleep up...

I want the leafs to get Orielly. Having Phaneuf and orielly the main pieces in a deal is good. But we don't know what other teams are offering. If not Colorado Anaheim , Dallas, LA or a dark horse Edmonton(unlikely though)

Yeah , there's other deals that could go down.
Edmonton: 2016 1st, Martin Marincin and Nikita Nikitin/Andrew Ferrence
Philly: 2015 1st and Streit/Vinny
Just a couple teams that could potentially offer a decent return.not saying they would or should .
