Dallas will be making a major push for the playoffs after the offseason trades they made. Their ownership group is demanding playoffs / no more mediocrity. Expect them to be big players for Franson and Phaneuf as their Defence is dire need of an overhaul.
They also have the cap room to handle Phaneufs contract or a Franson extension. |

If Dallas wants a legitimate top pairing dman they are going to have to give up more than Daley or Goligoski.. Nichushkin is a fair.. especially if the leafs hold some salary. perhaps 750k? - Sir_Winston
Nichuskin is a young star on the rise, Phaneuf is overpayed for years to come and he is not a top pairing defender. He is paid as much as a top D, when he is really no more than a 2nd pair/top PP unit guy at the best. Phaneuf plus a 1st for Nichuskin and retain 2 Mil maybe on Phaneuf |

Fair enough... Phaneuf and Lupul for Nichushkin. Dallas addresses two major holes in their line up with this trade.. Dallas's ownership wants to make the playoffs and a trade like this might make them a contender, which gives the Leafs leverage in the deal. If Nill is serious about the deal he may even throw Faksa in as a bit of a sweetner |

People really go overboard with the Dion value crap. If he's a # or 4, he's not a 80-100 top D-Man? Seriously?

Mike Heika of the Dallas morning news, had the following to say of Phaneuf: "Toronto’s captain has six years left on a contract extension that averages $7 million and would require a lot in return, so you have to be sold on the 29-year-old. But he’s a big (6-3, 218) lefty who might be the No. 1 defenceman the team craves."

I'd say something more like Franson+Van Reimsdyk for Nichuskin + 2nd rd pick.
Lets be honest here... Teams want phaneuf these days about as much as they'd want the Sedins. |

Are you still on this Gudbranson is a star kick? - Blackstrom2
To be honest, he's fallen out of favor with me. |

And then Gardiner for coutourier, Giroux, vorecek and Simmonds. Dominos baby - Bieksa#3
and then luongo + schneider for a draft pick and some decent prospects
oh wait that actually happened??? |

no team can afford phaneuf let alone phaneuf and lupul without sending back some serious salary.
stars won't trade nichushkin for phaneuf anyways, leafs will get a decent pick/prospect at best for him, likely with some turd salary coming our way as well. |

jvr is worth more than nichushkin + 2nd. nichu has potential but hasn't proven anything, jvr is a great powerforward in the making, could score 30+ goals every year on the right team. |

Yeah maybe... I mean if the guy can score 30 twice on the leafs, he should be a consistent 30 goal guy on 20+ other teams. |

What (frank)ing sense would it be to trade Mike Green for (frank)ing Tlusty? - Blackstrom2
I wondered the exact same thing...not sure it makes sense for either the Canes or the Caps. |
