I think the Rangers should try and trade for Martin Hanzal. He has a bit of a cap hit at 3.5 for a third line center but he is huge at 6'5' and lets face it we are lacking in size on this team. Maybe trading Hags who is a RFA might be doable. Lets face it with all of Haglin speed he still has hands of stone. Of his 9 goals this year 3 are open nets with the goalie pulled.

If we're having trouble finding a way to fit MSL and Zucc in under the cap if they each take hometown discounts, no way do I want Hanzal locked up for an extra year at that cap hit. I also just don't agree with dealing Hagelin at the deadline. Maybe at the draft, but for the playoff run, you want to add to your list of NHL players to improve depth. You don't want to take a bottom 6 roster player and trade him for another bottom 6 roster player. That might plug up one hole down the middle but it opens another one up on the wing.

I'm telling you now...if they deal Hagelin for a bottom 6 center, especially one making $3.5M with term, Glass will be a fixture on the wing in the playoffs the second there's an injury. And we will all want to kill ourselves.

Just like every other playoff bound team. The three types of players you just listed is what almost all playoff bound teams are looking for. And you will pay more then you would like to get them. Simple supply and demand at its best

110 percent right. But Sather has to address what is it that we really need, that we lack?? A Center. A big, tough center good on draws.

NHL governors told that next year's salary cap will still be within $1M of original $73M projection if Cdn dollar remains around 80 cents.

You are correct. Not great, but I'm sure the Rangers will use every dollar. I miss capgeek.

Haglin is making 2.1 million this year and is a RFA. He will be looking to make 2.8 to 3 mil with a new contract. A trade for Hanzal makes sense in that he is a big center that is good on draws and can put up good third line numbers (over 40 points so far). He is the type of player you need in the playoffs. Big and mean (over 70 pims so far this year). Lets face it the Rangers lack size and players in the center position. We don't have any centers in the system. Most are wingers and d-men. I would rather have Hanzal for the next 3 yrs at 3.5 than Haglin at 2.8 to 3 for the next 3 years.

Just to be fair, we all said the same thing last season. The Rangers weren't big and mean enough to make a long run. Look how that played out. The Rangers main strength this year is their team speed. I don't want to mess with that

Hagelin will not get 2.8 to 3M a year. I'm sure you're aware of how Sather squeezes RFAs.

Additionally, it's not so much a question of Hanzal vs Hagelin. Between Zucc, MSL, and Hagelin, we can only realistically keep 2. So if you swap out Hagelin for Hanzal, you still have to choose between Zucc and MSL.

So basically, do you want Hanzal and one of Zucc or MSL? Or Hagelin and one of Zucc or MSL? Or Zucc and MSL and a pick for Hagelin at the draft?

Edit: I think you might still say Hanzal and one of Zucc and MSL since we have Duclair and Buchnevich knocking on the door to take a spot on the wing, but I still maintain that keeping Hagelin for the playoffs is the best bet. We want as many NHL bodies as possible. We don't want to ship any NHL players out even if it might be a bit of an upgrade. If we could get Hanzal for a couple picks and a prospect, then yea maybe you still do that and then go ahead and deal Hagelin during the offseason after the playoffs are over. But I just don't see Arizona really wanting to move a veteran they have locked up long term when they have guys like Vermette and Michalek that are pending UFAs that they will move first.

World Cup of Hockey is back. Out of the 8 teams, one of the teams is going to be an All-Star team of multiple less-talented European countries and another team will be a U23 North American team. Pretty cool.

Weird, but cool. A team of MacKinnon, Drouin, Trouba, McDavid, Eichel, Seth Jones, Gaudreau, etc.

It's like a World Junior All-Star team on steroids. Would be pretty sweet.

Weber hit 108, most exciting part of the night other than Vorocek using Johnny Gaudreau as a prop
