yea I would be for getting Laich as well, but i doubt the rangers tth anyone that we could end up playing in playoffs unless it is a must... is anyone else getting nervous on the Zucc front? if he isnt signed soon, he is definitely gone. what the cally situation showed me is that Sather is not afraid to trade anyone...
- richardson30

I think the mere fact that zucc is younger, less injuries, more productive with a less aggressive agent and AV seems to be on the keeping him side, a deal gets done. Ive said it before and ive been chastised, but if were going to make a move for a center which i really think we need to, since lack of depth up the middle is what did us in last year, i would much rather see a package headlined by hagelin going the other way than zuccarello.

The problem is, and were all guilty of it, fans get attached to their own players. But in this case, if you look at hagelin and say, "What have you done for me lately?", i think even he would have trouble giving you and answer.

Zucc won't be moved for picks. If he's moved, it's for a top 6 winger that can help now similar to how Cally was moved for MSL.

I think we're all in though and no roster player will be moved. It will be prospects and picks for depth players. We have some very specific holes that don't require a blockbuster to fix: center that's good on draws to slot in behind stepan and brassard, a bottom 6 winger with size and physicality, and NHL defensemen. Sather loves NHL defensemen. He'd probably carry 12 on a roster if he could.

[quote=Cptmjl]This stuff isnt important. Jan strategically dropped this blog to tune down the Lundqvist denying the allstar game rumors. I know how you guys operate.

How come a rocket scientist like yourself is lurking around this dodgy place

i would be into that but i doubt columbus will ever trade with us again after we fleeced them twice... also does anyone know if Jarret Stoll is available? i know the kings are possibly trying to move richards but if unable to do so they still need to shed cap... I would love to get Stoll...

Also I really like Hayes at center. playing a guy that can take the draws and then move to wing with Hayes is preffered. if Hayes was good at faceoffs - then no need for another player...

- richardson30

in defense of the rangers, they didn't really fleece the jackets on the Nash trade. columbus handcuffed themselves by giving him a no trade clause and they paid for it.

on the zuccarello front, i've already made my peace with the fact that he'll be gone at the end of the season. he's got too many things going against him: he's under sized, he's having a down season in his contract year, and the rangers are cap strapped. you can't keep them all.

Clearly, most important thing in the world. By the way, disagree with Ek here. Lundqvist wasn't chosen initially and likely made plans. Maybe he made it known he wouldn't go but this is the first he has had a real mid-season break, excluding the lockout, since 2008.

Zuccarello needs to start scoring goals. That's all I have to say about him right now.

Saw that last night, he handled it as well as he could. He tweeted such things like "I always wanted to score in a game." And, "Made TSN's not top 10 worst of the week, haha."

Sorry guys, I love Zuccarello as much as everyone else but I really have to wonder if we have rose colored glasses for him the way that Oilers/Coyotes fans have for Gagner.

Plenty of people lined up to break it to James Tanner the other day that Gagner is only a top 6 player on a lousy NHL team. Honestly, I think Zuccarello is a 3rd line player.

As much as I like Zucc, I hope Sather doesn't pay $5M to retain a 3rd line guy. If that is the case he might as well have retained Captain Cally.

In other news Lundqvist's $8M deal sure isn't making things any easier for the home team.

right now, Hank has the 6th highest cap hit in the NHL, he'll drop down to 8th when the ridiculous Kane and Toews extensions start next season. Within a couple of years, he'll drop out of the top 10.

Lundqvist didn't exactly give us a break with his contract, but I think an argument can be made that he deserves to be the highest paid player in the league and he certainly generates every penny he makes in return for the Rangers.

what do you guys think of boedker as a target, he's probably available, he fits our system, low cap hit, would however cost us a roster player but i would be okay with that

I like Boedker, I am sure he'll be recovered from his spleen injury by deadline time.

I think the Coyotes will do whatever they can to keep him, but you never know.

the Coyotes are definitely a team Sather trades with, so I wouldn't rule it completely out, but I still think it's more likely that they go for a center if they acquire a forward.

Is it weird that I thought about you Jimmy when Hags scored that goal in OT the other night when I was at MSG?

Just like every other playoff bound team. The three types of players you just listed is what almost all playoff bound teams are looking for. And you will pay more then you would like to get them. Simple supply and demand at its best(worst?).

It will be costly but it won't require a blockbuster.

I think the Rangers should try and trade for Martin Hanzal. He has a bit of a cap hit at 3.5 for a third line center but he is huge at 6'5' and lets face it we are lacking in size on this team. Maybe trading Hags who is a RFA might be doable. Lets face it with all of Haglin speed he still has hands of stone. Of his 9 goals this year 3 are open nets with the goalie pulled.

Blockbuster.. No. But these players you are after are going to cost more then the average fan thinks they should. The deal usually ends up being at least one round pick(s) higher then the fans think it should have cost to get player X.
Third line center that is above average on draws= very valuable commodity
Bottom six winger that can skate, hit, defensively responsible, low cap hit= very, very valuable commodity.
Third pairing D-man that can shut it down and hit, with a low cap hit= great commodity.
Fans of all 30 NHL teams that think these players should be able to be had for veteran player Y that's grossly overpaid and a 7th round pick= priceless.
Not saying your that fan. But you get the idea.

You just need to look at the Gaustad for a 1st deal or the Forsberg for Erat deal. GMs of contending teams are willing to overpay at the deadline for that Stanley Cup run.

I expect Vermette to go for a good prospect and a 1st. Sekera and Michalek for a similar package. A more under the radar target like Santorelli might be had for a 3rd.
