Glad you wrote it. Absolutely agree.

Suppose the Hawks looked at it and said...."Hmmmmm, Sid and Malkin resting....maybe we should have our FIVE guys not go too." It could turn ugly for the NHL trying to get key player there.

They should impliment a rule. Some guys ARE legitimately injured....so make it so that if you cannot play, you MUST sit out the 3 or 5 games following the break. Bet you both Sid and malkin wouldn't be absent then. And at least the REAL injured guys wouldn't be questioned...

Do it like mlb, east vs west and winner gets home ice advantage in Finals
- PeterMcCor

Hell no! I think it's a joke that MLB even considered this option let alone the fact they actually came to an agreement on it

Where does having a sense of entitlement equate to wanting to be rested for a playoff or cup run? Im going to preface this with im not taking away ANYTHING from Gordie Howe. Gordie Howe played the majority of his years not playing as fast a game, as physical a game, as travel heavy and as many games.

You have a point about the Olympics but I understand for other countries players to want to do that. We have the privilege of seeing the best players in the world on a nightly basis. Other countries national teams are THEIR teams and the players from those countries know that. I also understand your point on THIS years game since there hasn't been one the past couple of years. But my personal preference is to have none, or one every 3 years, or if the nhl is going to continue going to the Olympics do an allstar game every 2nd year in between the Olympics. Hell maybe even do the game to start the season during preseason as a way to market the start of the season.

I know most of you will disagree with me but the allstar game has become overrated. I think the players pick up on that lack of interest and would prefer to rest if given the opportunity, and I think thats ok.

I think all the teams represented by the winning team should get two comp buyouts which they could use immediately following the game

The all star game is a joke.

Don't blame the players at all for skipping out.

Change it to be held on January 1st as an outdoor game - call it the All Star Winter Classic. gives them a novelty and a reason for guy to want to partake in that sort of excitement on a big stage in front of 50K fans. Removes the complaining about why only a handful of teams repeatedly get to play in winter classics over and over again..

...and piggy back the game to an earlier Young Stars game for players under 25 - I loved when they did that.....

If Bergeon can play in stanley cup with fractured fib and collapsed lung and whatever else was wrong with him, then I think any player can and should play in all star. Little absurd. especially with how lose the play is at all star game.

Crosby, Maatta, Kunitz all came back from the Olympics and played like dog sh*t. Martin came back injured. Season Ticket Holders in Pittsburgh could care less about these exhibitions. I hope the NHL is done with the Olympics. The ASG is a joke.

I'll jump on the side that the NHL all-star game is still a required piece during the season (because nobody wants to watch that in June). I'll also throw myself on the side that it's for the younger fans to just watch a fun game.

1 - I dump this captain idea for picking teams. It takes even more away from the game, East vs West is all that's needed because fans already separate the players this way.

2 - Name the Captains, voted specifically by the other all-star players only to see who they want to captain their team. You'll get a good mix of stars, veterans or perhaps a player who plays for the hosting city.

3 - Those captains assign a charity, East vs West, the winning team gets a massive charitable donation (losing team would obviously get something but to a smaller degree). Puts a LITTLE something on the game without pretending it's more than a charity event.

Hey it's not re-inventing the wheel, it doesn't change the hardcore fan mind-set...but it's a little added emphasis to do something positive.

It would certainly be nicer to see some money go to charity than to watch the guy who gets picked last in the "draft" win a Kia.

I don't even know if the charities want a Kia?
