I can't actually find an announcement about this thing anywhere (SN, TSN, and even NHL.com all have no mention of it), so I'm just going to comment based on the generally accepted rumors about the format:

My single biggest hate-on is that the entire thing will take place in Toronto. I totally get the desire to not have it spanning multiple continents, but to cram the entire thing into a single city? Why? Even the FIFA World Cup takes place in multiple cities.

Why does everyone seem to be assuming MacKinnon would even make team Canada? If the elite players play and it replaces the Olympics like it sounds like is the plan.... I don't think he's anywhere close to a lock. If it's like world championships where everyone declines the invite sure but if rosters look like Olympic rosters is he going to beat out Crosby Getzlaf Stamkos Giroux Toews Seguin type players for a center spot? I'd say it's unlikely and far from a guarentee

I'm not he's a great player. Won't deny that makes any team in the league better. But in a tournament environment as soon as 2016 I still think he's behind all those players I mentioned. He will be there and a lock for team Canada in the future just not sure it happens before he turns 24

I suppose, but I suspect they're just going to get Ottawa World Juniors syndrome - they'll make you buy tickets in a package for every game, then schedule the games such that it's physically impossible to attend every game, and the Finland vs AllTheRestOfEuropeThatIsn'tOtherwisePlaying game will be three quarters empty, even though it's technically a sellout.

He would probably be a 4th liner on Canada at the very best, hes been playing RW a lot this season, and perhaps shifts to the Wing long term. Kids still all world skill and speed wise....this year his shooting percentage is way way done. Im not an analytics guy but they say he has some fo the worst measurable puck luck in the league.

id much rather see something like the college all star team be included. or just have the world junior winner from the year before get a bid to enter. or a north american allstars, european all stars, russian/etc all stars, college all stars, and a young guns team and an AHL all stars or something. if you arent going to include only countries then have some real fun with it. every league puts together its best team. KHL, NHL, AHL, NCAA, even ECHL, and the euro leagues.

It is sort of a dumb format, I can't understand why they are doing it guys. Can you? Canada is the best and maybe they are trying to make it more competitive? They should just have these teams:

Canada
USA
Sweden
Finland
Czech. Republic
Russia
Slovakia

Then have Switzerland and Denmark have a shirtless wrestling match so see which of them gets to be in the tournament. I don't like this new format it is sort of racist really.
