I'm just guessing that Hornqvist + 11th wasn't on the table.
- jmatchett383

Even if that first was up for grabs we would have taken Kasperi then. We had him ranked at 6th overall if I remember correctly. Maybe we would of had to swap packs, which would have just been us spinning tires really and we wouldn't have gotten Spaling maybe. He is good in bottom 6, which he was signed for. Give us time to get healthy and he'll be a great depth guy.

Just saw this fancy new pie chart.... check it...

http://iguana.cs.toronto.edu/

"NHL: Player Chemistry
Analytics even Bruins fans can understand

This chart show which players have the best offensive chemistry. Hover over to display the goal production between two players. A thicker line indicates more goals. A line that is thicker at one end indicates that player scores more of the goals when those two connect."

- j.boyd919

Fancy shmancy. Pretty cool though. Although it doesn't take into account posts/missed empty nets or anything else other than goals

Seems like a lateral move.
- jmatchett383

Totally. Bergenheim is a Penguin killer-type player, so obviously he would be a great Penguin. It worked really well for Ramzi Abid.

It's never "Still Florida"! It's (frank)ing Mellanby and Vanbiesbrouck and stupid (frank)ing rats!

I loved when they started calling delay of game penalties for the rats.

As much bashing as he takes, I thought Scuds played his best game of the season last night. Was pretty good in Philly too.

Sutter and Spaling were 5.5 million dollars of poop.

Its a shame because Sutturd really showed signs of life to start the year, now he is back to his god awful self, I honestly cant stand the guy.

Like I said, Scuderi taking Voracek off the ice for 17 minutes was the best thing he's done since being resigned.

That. What. How the heck is that related to a trade for Bergenheim?

It's just that I've noticed Penguin fans sometimes have an unreasonably high appraisal of opposing players who do well against the Penguins. If the Penguins could amass a bottom-six forward group full of Penguin killers, Jay Pandolfo would still be in the league.

Well let's be honest... I think Voracek himself was more responsible for that than Scuds.

Thanks Gunner, definitely one of your best articles. I agree with all. Let Despres play, Give Poulliot a chance and put Ehrhoff on the first PP. Strange coaching decisions have crept into our heads, Deja vu, man!

Of course, most fans do, however Bergenheim is a very productive player. He is a more physical player than Spaling and isn't signed beyond this season. I think the deal rids us of a contract we don't need while giving us a player to win now.

Better fit, better production, but certainly not by that much.

So what else is Pittsburgh trading to make this happen? You make a compelling case for Bergenheim to stay put.

30 year old UFA who doesn't fit their long term plans. If you can bring in a quality player of similiar production who is younger... You might want to do so.

Martin didnt look too good on the PP. I would put Ehroff up there before PM at this point.

Scuds actually played alright last night.

Sutter needs to be a different player. Pens need a physical 3C, not a guy trying to be somethign hes not.

I think Sutter is the pseudo-finesse game second coming of Josef Beranek.

One player being physical won't compensate for the Penguins' lack of team checking and team hitting. They don't operate as units of five offensively or defensively. It's all scoring on the rush and hoping.

I would toss Pouliot out there on 1st PP. Anyone else notice that when he is out there he doesn't hesitate to fire the puck? Great shot and can actually hit the net. Once teams start adjusting to DP on the point that will free up room for the rest of the squad

He puts it on net. Once there is a screen there, the puck stands a fair chance of going in or becoming a rebound. It's fairly easy unless scoring that way isn't considered skillful enough.

I think the lack of physicality will be the Achilles heal once again.
