I'd probably jump off the Brooklyn bridge if the islanders sign MSL if we hardball him, resign boychuk, and then sign a solid defenseman like methot in free agency and have a kid like dal colle crack their already deep offense and have a Calder trophy winning season.

The Rangers should just throw $11 million bucks in a room, and tell MSL, Zucc and Hags to work it out amongst themselves.

They should fight to death over it. I don't know who I'd pick to win

I'm curious to see how much Stepan signs for. I can see him taking a discount and signing for $5.75 or holding out for as much as $7.5.

This sounds like a winner from entertainment value alone let alone the cap savings from the contracts + LTIR savings to start the season.

Hagelin and Zucc are best friends, they would tag team MSL

Over his last two contracts, MSL has made $54 million dollars. Given the fact that he is near retirement and engineered a trade to the Rangers because he wants to live in the area, I hardly think he is going to be unreasonable on a contract figure. Like you said, I think he sign a fair, team friendly deal which will give the Rangers the best opportunity to win.

For these reasons, I disagree with the sentiment that he will be the odd man out. Unless he wants to go play for the Islanders.

I agree with everything but the last sentence. Also, Isles will be in Brooklyn, so not so easy to go from Ct to Brooklyn, unlike going from Ct to Rye, where Rangers practice or to MSG

I wonder where the Isles will practice once they move. I guess still in Syosset?

I think there is a literally zero percent chance he takes a discount. Especially after the last hold out, his agent is licking his chops now that he's been a PPG player since sochi

He's still an RFA, although his negotiating position is much better than last time around since he is arbitration eligible. If you look at what O'Reilly got from the Avs ($6 million) that is the exact type of comparable that will be used in Stepan's arbitration. The reality of the matter is the Stepan will probably get somewhere between $6 million and 6.5 million in arbitration, so the Rangers would be wise to lock him up before it gets to that point. Maybe if they give him the term (7-8 years), he'll take a bit lower of annual salary.

And in other news, Ryan McDonagh's agent didn't do such a good job for him.

Nash's contract is looking like a steal now compared to Patty Kane and Kessels. Will probably look like a steal compared to JT's next $11M a year deal too.

Buchnevich has the 4th most points by a player 20 or younger in #khl history. Only Kuznetsov (twice) and Tarasenko have tallied more. #NYR
