also shouldn't the NFL check balls and then not give them to the team but rather let the official put a ball into play?

do the teams bring their own balls?

Was there anything more exciting than Latvia vs. Canada in Sochi?

Not really.

Well if it DOESN'T make that big of a difference, why bother?

Same thing with the tapings...if it provides no advantage, why go through all the trouble?

And what's to say they aren't doing anything else to gain an unfair advantage? And with all that, I'm still rooting for them to beat the Seahawks...

Richard Sherman had a great quote...he said the league was going to suspend Marshawn Lynch if he wore gold shoes, but deflating the football is somehow less egregious.

Well, one team was playing with deflated footballs until at least halftime (it's been unconfirmed if they were reinflated from what I saw), and one team was not. Can you guess which one had more points at halftime?

Judging by the score, I think the Patriots could have beat the other team even if they were using golf balls.

understandable.

it was probably still simmering from the prior game when someone wound up to take a slapshot at him and he didn't do anything about it.

Look, they deflated the balls. That's a fact.

Deflating the balls is against the rules. That's a fact.

New England has done this before, this season. That's a fact.

New England has a long established history of cheating. That's a fact.

The NFL doesn't give a poop and probably won't punish anyone for it because New England and Tom Brady are their golden boys. That's not a fact, but might as well be.

Cheating happened prior to the result so the score is irrelevant as a defense. And if you want to use the score as a defense to the cheating they lit the Colts up with good balls which made the cheating unnecessary and much worse.

I'd just as soon see a trade to make the team better, not for cap relief for next year.

At this point anyway.

well some of us disagree. i do think Petry is better than Emelin. you're pointing to stats but neither player is an offensive force so who cares about points? +/- is not an accurate gauge either. Emelin is on Montreal's third pair. Petry is on Edmonton's first. he's woefully miscast there and would likely fit in nicely as a 3-4 defencemen on a decent team like Montreal. he's a far better skater than Emelin and i imagine, not quite as error prone. it's not a huge upgrade but it's an upgrade nonetheless and it would also provide cap flexibility going forward.

Our discussion wasn't centered around the rule but rather the advantage that was gained.

why would they do this if it did not provide an advantage?

And do you know for certain the balls were re-inflated at halftime?

Stop listening to Oilers fans. Petry is a wussy! He can't even hit. Opposite players would enter habs zone with head down. At least with Emelin, you have to enter with your head up. Petry enter opposite zone then shoot the puck shot wide and other teams get a break away.

Well, when you consider the closest d to him on that same woeful team is -12 (Fayne), and Petry is almost double, that would suggest to me that Petry is a poopty at defence.

We can agree to disagree though.

Maybe Fayne goes for the change like an idiot and leaves Fayne alone
