Penguins have recalled Derrick Pouliot from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ... send Farnham down.

I wonder if this is insurance in case Letang doesn't play tonight or if maybe they will sit someone else if he does.

IDK maybe because Harrington is terrible.

what that says though is what Rinaldo did was worse than Neal's and it was wasn't. Neal is a bigger clown.
- RobFlyers#1

How does suspending Neal say 20 games for what he did and Rinaldo the same or more indicate that?

As I said in my other post, I would suspend massively for the first offense, and double it from there, starting with 10, 20, 40, etc.

Still would have called up Dumolin over Pouliot...

Neither is good. Maybe you're right. Maybe Neal was worse. Let's say I agree. But remember, he's a real talent. If he plays hockey and isn't an ass, then he has a ton of value. What does Rinaldo have? Jack squat. Maybe it's a bit unfair but the league won't forget that.
- HopintheCordoba

Neal's may have been worse... That being said Marchant is no angel. But thats not the point... How about Suter's elbow on Downie? Not that im defending him... But is anyone really going to suggest that was a hockey play???? or it was on Downie so its ok???

I think Harrington is over matched. I didn't think that a couple of weeks ago, but now there's plenty of evidence. I think they should be cautious with Tanger. We certainly know now that symptoms can take a while.

I've read enough posts over the years to think that MOST people on this site(and everywhere) agree that Olympic hockey is some of the best there is , extremely exciting to watch , sitting on the edge of you seat type hockey ? Am I wrong ? Now how can that be ???? There are literally almost NO fights and very few even QUESTIONABLE hits, how is this possible ? The fact is the game is just as good without all this bull$hit.

I really didn't think he was bad last night. They could've given him 3-7 more minutes because of being down to 5 defensemen too.

The Olympics also has only the highest end talent playing. Kind of different than needing to ice 30 teams over an 82 game season where AHL players need to step in with injuries.

No, it's all stupid. Like I said I don't care who it is. The only people who care or maybe should care about that are neanderthals.

Also, it is dream team vs dream team. That is why it so great. You gonna get that kind of talent on 30 teams in the NHL?

In the few games Ive seen, he looks lost. Pouliott looks even more lost. I just laugh at all the posters here that claimed Pouliott was NHL ready and Bobby Orr level. When in reality its more like Ryan Whitney level. If only 2/3 become NHL regs and their ceilings are mid to bottom pairings, thats so bad on Shero its not even funny.

Round robin type tournaments like that are like playoffs. Simply can't risk suspension. There are tighter rules at times and the roster is made up man to man of guys that make a difference. Losing anyone is a big problem.

Very much disagree. If that is the approach you want to take, wait until the target has the puck, charge at them, & aim for the head w/ an elbow or dive at their knees. Do not concern yourself with the hit being late; just go for the injury regardless. Hell, you don't even have to wait for them to have the puck if you really feel like it.

Personally, I think its a stupid plan, but to say that you can't threaten/injure a star player because of the instigator penalty is simply not true. Getting punched sucks; getting a flying elbow to the head or tearing your ACL can end your season or career.

I don't think anyone, even Cooke/Rinaldo, has ever hit a player thinking, "Man, I hope I kill/cripple this guy." I think it's more of an "I hope I hit this guy hard and knock him out of the game." I mean, by your rationale, it would be totally acceptable to carry a knife onto the ice and stab a dude.

My point was, maybe the day of the game, Adams gives an interview and says something along the lines of, "Well, we know they have some guys who may want to run our star players. If they do, we'll have no problem taking some runs at their players in return."

Or something similar. You have to let it be known that retaliation will occur before the fact.

If you want that then you have to get rid of about 20 plus teams

I think he has a ton of talent and potential. Really only in his first pro year. This is a growing experience for defensemen. Not sure what people are expecting. NHL ready is a varying term if you ask me. He's exceptonal at times so far offensively. Needs to work continually on the defensive game. Not really news. Still, all for both playing and getting this valuable experience now. Ehrhoff potentially walking and Martin definitely walking next year should be concerning. These guys need to play while they aren't relied on so much.

Harrington is a bit overmatched at the moment, but you can see he's on the right track. Same with Dumoulin, in my opinion.

If they could play a sheltered, bottom-6 role up in the NHL w/ a solid Dman who could cover up their mistakes, I think they'd be OK. Unfortunately, Scuderi has that spot locked down.

Well Mario threatened to pull "his" team out of the league when we pulverized them that game. Maybe he can start his own princess league where only the Penguins are allowed to have dirty players and no one is allowed to say shat about it. He can write that into the contracts.

I agree with this that the talent level is so high that it makes it better to watch but I think my point is still valid , that the game would be fine w/o the shenanigans.

so let me get this straight. While Rinaldo's hit was dirty the game is fast and he finished a hit. yes should NOT have finished it but he did. 20 games is a bit of an exaggeration don't you think. James Neal received just 5 games for kneeing Marchand in the head while he was on the the ice. that was a obvious intent to injure but a hockey play, body check, illegal yes, gets 20 games. wow.
- RobFlyers#1

Neal should have been suspended longer too. I am not denying that. The NHL department of "player Safety" needs to do a better job overall.

There was no reason for this hit. It was not like Letang turned last second.

I understand the irony of this coming from a Flyers fan, but that Islanders/Penguins game was a total bush league job by the Islanders. Yelling at a player lying down on the ice that you just sucker-punched? A goon called up from the minors skating down the ice to fight a goalie? Come on now, that game was a joke.

Really all that needs to be shown is Talbot dodging a tackle/punch from behind while he's carying the puck up ice or Trevor Gillies at any moment of your choice. From both sides it was awful but those were some standout things for me. An embarrasment.

We've been through this before. The game before that was pretty brutal too. Dirty hits, players pointing and laughing at Comeau lying on the ice after one. Yep. Pay backs a b!tch.
