I would hope they bring Del Zotto back for next season, either by retaining him or signing him again in the off season.
- MBFlyerfan

Flyers hold the leverage, all they have to do is offer him a Q offer.

If Grossmann gets moved, I'll change my avatar to Sidney Crosby.

That's just mean.

Yes
The monitoring can be a real pain for people.
Also it costs money to run the INR test.
Xeralto is way more expensive compared to warfarin so I guess it evens out.

- Marc D

Yeah I get monitoring is a pain for some more than others but dude...that's important. On par with a diabetic check glucose levels. It's really, really important.

No monitoring of blood thinner therapy is asking for trouble that shouldn't even be trouble in the first place.

He'll have to get off blood thinners to play, correct? How can he do that if he still has blood clots in his leg?
- MJL

This is the mindset of many. Granted, many are outside the situation, but it still holds true.

Playing a professional sport on anticoags is just an all around bad idea.

I remember reading in a Musing he's taking Xarelto and probably will be taking it for life.
- Giroux_Is_God

My guess is this all means that he'll end up retiring without ever coming back to play. It's a serious condition and he's not getting any younger.

Sucks.

Not if they trade him. I'm kinda hoping they don't trade him.

It's my guess too. It does suck.

As long as he's taking anticoagulants, I doubt any doc will let him play.

I would think playing on blood thinners would be way too risky.
A major internal hemorrhage could kill him.

How a doctor could clear him with that risk is beyond my understanding.

If he has the genetic clotting disorder that predisposes you to getting blood clots the treatment is taking blood thinners for life.

There are some forms of blood thinners that you can take as an injection once or twice a day. There may be a way to schedule these injections where he takes the medicine after a game, to limit the risk of bleeding. I'm speculating about this last part.

That's just a false assumption on your part. I know how things are here. If Rinaldo comes off of suspension and plays, it's going to be the hot topic.

His contract length would likely limit the return coming back.

Look at what Hartnell's deal did for his trade value.

That being said what would you think they could get for Streit this TDL or summer?

- Marc D

For what's he done this season, I think a playoff team with a need would be willing to give up at least a 1st rounder for him.

There's no way he'd get cleared with clots still in his leg, right? That's what OP was asking about in the 2nd part.

Up until recently all the blood thinner monitoring had to be done in a clinic. So appointments and travel time.
I think now you can check it at home just like glucose monitoring.
But the majority don't have home monitoring yet.

I think they would be wise to sell high on Mark Streit.
- bradleyc4

Man, I've really come to love Streit but realistically he will be out of the picture by the time this club is ready to be taking deep runs.

If the Flyers made him available I think they could get a huge return. Guy is 4th in the league in points for D men. He could conceivably be the best player available at the deadline in that regard.

what a (frank)ing joke. he makes a very bold, yet vague statement without backing anything up as if it's fact. it's (frank)ing absurd.

he's a (frank)ing douche nozzle and so are the penguins and their fans.

nobody within their right mind would defend the rinaldo hit. he's a terrible hockey player, with a bad history, and should not be in the league. simple as that. to say the organization is repugnant and a guy like rinaldo is indicative of the real ethos and culture of the team is absurd. the flyers are soft and haven't played a bruising style for years. have they had a random thuggish type over the years? yes. but so do many other teams. the flyers are not the bullies. they haven't been for years.

the pens have had plenty of dirt bags over the years, cooke and neal most recently and that (frank)ing hack that injured mason at the end of last season. even crosby with his ball punching from behind is an example.

so (frank) you, (frank) your fans, (frank) your team, your beat writers, pxp announcers and their relatives.

the narrative is old, tired, and false.

I mean...I'm gonna go ahead a confidently say not a chance.

I'm not exactly the end all be all entity here, but taking my (relatively limited) medical knowledge I'm saying with 99% certainly that as long as he has clots anywhere, they're not even going to entertain the thought of him playing. Regardless of treatment.

The issue with Streit isn't his performance, he's played well, it's his age and contract term. Not sure a contending team would want to take it on, in addition to giving up considerable assets.

I understand that sentiment, and I wouldn't be surprised if they do. He makes them a much better team.

But given his age, if someone came with a strong offer (1st rounder or high-level prospect) I'd be more inclined to deal him.

He's not nearly as good as Streit, but they could give Del Zotto more minutes.

As a lay person, I would think it's cut and dry, but it still seems like they're exploring ways of him playing again. Just a feeling I get.

Whoever loses the bet has to change their avatar.

I've been here for like what 3 years now or some poop and both of you guys have ALWAYS had the same avatar.

If Rinaldo plays in his first game back, Tomahawk changes his pic
If he sits, then MJL changes it.

- Giroux_Is_God

i've had the same avatar since day 1. and it will never change. never.

Do you think Gotisbehere is ready to replace Streit on the first PP next year?
Or do you see them going for someone like Mike Green to replace him?
Or are you writing off next season without Streit at the point and looking towards improving the team ~3-4 years for now?

Serious question.
