It's true. I've been frequenting the same boards as our goalie friend for well over 15 years and he's always been as hot-headed and entertaining as this. I should dig up some epic rants from the old flyers newsgroup. Thing is, he's almost always right.

good. i was going to edit the post, but then i figured it would just come up later, which it did.

and i got it about the burned eyes.

the flyers have little to be proud of this season. they (frank)ing suck and everybody knows it. beating the penguins one more time and worsening their draft position is of no consolation to me.

haha dont feel the need to be sensitive on my account. i get it.

i think that a lot of what that dude wrote, while it doesnt apply to the team at all anymore, certainly still applies to a lot of the fans. i just assume that the people that I talk to on here and bother to talk with me are all not like that. and vise versa.

and yeah. it has been a rough season. but from a flyers standpoint, thats a decent win. and has to at least feel good for a lot of people. while i still wouldnt like what rinaldo did, as a flyers game im sure i would have loved last night.

my purpose in saying that was that despite the victory and apparent upper hand the flyers posses over the penguins, the penguins have the last laugh, because they're always in the mix and near the top, including right now. the flyers have been all over the place since 2005.

don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the win. it's impossible NOT to. what i really hate is that it doesn't mean anything.

yeah. i understand. not to be greedy. but i want another cup with this core, before that window closes in a hurry. because when this window closes, the next handful of years will not be pretty. cost of doing business in the manner in which they are.

why would that be considered greedy? i don't think it is. i want a cup every (frank)ing year, regardless if it's even remotely possible.

well, he had enough time to choose to leave his feet. i get what youre saying. but to me, it was late. late, high, from behind, and left his feet. thats all of the boxes checked to me.

Personally, I'm not disputing that it was a boarding major. I just feel there are some mischaracterizations floating around out there based largely on things taken out of context, that are serving to distort the reality of the play and thereby unfairly vilifying Rinaldo leading up to this hearing. I don't really want him on the team, and certainly wouldn't want to see guys on my team going around trying to injure opposing players...I don't think Rinaldo was doing that here and feel bad for the guy given how this episode is playing out in the media thus far. I don't think the hit as high...contact was Rinaldo's right shoulder/arm to Letang's rear right shoulder/arm (considered "from behind").

I don't think it was late, but perhaps in the context of an illegal hit, its a factor they consider (I'd still like to know how they make the ultimate determination...is there any time allowed for a player to finish the check or is there a zero tolerance, meaning the millisecond the target gives up the puck, you can't hit or it's considered late?

Bottom line is that Rinaldo hit a player perceived to be in a vulnerable/defenseless position and was rightly penalized for it under the rules and is now subject to league discipline. His post-game comments may not have been polished or politically correct, but he was not making light of the situation by "joking around"...I believe he was completely serious when he said what he did changed the game. And he's right...say what you want about the legality of the hit, it was a catalyst that changed the dynamics of the game, likely causing the Pens to lose their poise and the Flyers to ride the tide of emotion to victory against a hated rival. Letang doesn't appear to be seriously injured, which is good.

because i know its the hardest one to win in sports. some great players never get one. and some teams go decades without sniffing it.

dont want to sound like the spoiled kid driving the beamer thats only a year old and clamoring for a new model. but 2009 already feels so long ago. there are no more cup laurels. although for the players, there shouldnt be.

you do make some good points. there needs to be a clearer demarcation on what is late and what isnt. but then again. nhl officiating lives in the grey.

and they live for the outcome, not the intent. yeah a penalty is still going to be called. but if letang is able to skate away and then play tonight, there is undoubtedly significantly less heat. which admittedly, is a pretty crumby standard of review.

i tried that earlier bro they dont wanna hear it, they just want rinaldo gone, not like i blame them.
- JoeRussomanno

Kris letang is no angel and the more I watch the play the more I believe that he left himself vulnerable in hopes of drawing a penalty. I'm not saying it was right for rinaldo to do it but letang didn't have to get hit like that. If the hit is considered late, he certainly had time to avoid it. I think he chose not to. I think that type of strategy is not above kris letangs standards.
Children are taught to turn/spin away from hits to avoid injury. Letang pivots 45 degrees counter clockwise and he isn't hit. At least he was tight to the boards. Another factor that tells me he knew he was gonna get hit and was gm a see if he could put his squad on the pp. Again not trying to absolve rinaldo of his role in this. Just pointing out that kris letang imo is NOT a helpless victim

Ugh. I'm watching the Ducks game on my iPod.

There was nothing on between 10 am and 1, so I started watching the old episodes on demand, now I can't stop

Started HBO's John Adams last night, and now I need to finish it before the History Channel starts the Sons of Liberty mini-series in a few days.

That's a good one. Giamatti and Linney are great.

I love that they used the Stones for the commercial for Sons of Liberty

Like Jsaq said, Giamatti and Linney are both good in it. I'm enjoying it.

I'm not big on musicals, but 1776 gets watched every July 4th.

Caught this clip of Dean Norris on Conan, discussing his role as Franklin in SoL -
