I get that, but I'm thinking that a disciplinary hearing oughta be mandatory.
- tangent_man

I get what you're saying, but it saves the team and the league money. Rinaldo is basically pleaded no contest to the charges by declining the offer of a face to face sit down

Not missing your point. Neal has started to earn more and more of a rep as a dirty player.

Rinaldo spent a year in the AHL and had more suspensions than goals.

- Jsaquella

ok so at that time when he committed said infraction he did in fact not receive same penalty only when a guy gets a reputation does the letter of the law apply because the magical force fields of nhl hockey cant protect players from injury when a player throwing a hit has a bad reputation... geez heres something i wish worked in our real life legal system, im sorry your honor i only wrapped a crowbar around their head because xyz but i have a good reputation so i expect full exoneration and if not a minimal fine at most.

Just thinking of it as another deterrant. If it starts costing the teams money, maybe they'd be more active in taking matters into their own hands.

Stuff from the beats with Hextall:

-Emery will be the back up when Mason returns, hopes it will be first game after the AS Break

-Couple days for a decision on Timonen.

Hextall re: Kimmo: “In the end, it’s gonna be the doctor’s call, but we want to be comfortable with the doctor’s assessment."

-Rinaldo regrets comments from after the game

Apples and oranges.

Guys who are repeat offenders, are held to a higher degree of scrutiny. Neal is also now held to a higher degree of scrutiny as a result of his moronic behavior in the 2012 playoffs.

Want a real deterrent? Fine the poop out of teams that employ these (frank)ing clowns.

I know he hasn't played all year, but he's a known quantity... the risk is low... I'd take him back.

... oh you mean the health risks..

apparently he still has the blood clot in his leg? Why take that kind of a risk? That sounds terrifying.

nhl fines are laughably low for players, not sure they'd be able to jack up the dollars enough to make any of these owners do anything but laugh at it.

I think at this point they are probably looking for second opinions, because Timonen really wants to play out his contract and end career on his terms.

I agree it's not a risk I'd want to take.

Not only that, but the bigger problem I'd say is the Xarelto he's on.

That's poop's no joke. You have hemophilia lite when you take that.

Just bathe him in some iodine before the game.

I feel bad for the guy, but I'd feel worse if playing made his condition life threatening or gave him health problems the rest of his life. He's had a great career, I know he's probably unhappy about how it (looks like) ended, but it just seems foolish. He's not going to change anything for the flyers this season by coming back, other than risking his health. I'm no doctor but I thought being on blood thinners and having a clot meant you did not want to risk playing a professional contact sport.
