yes and recievers should still be decapitated when going over the middle of the field, sorry, guess im just old school.
- JoeRussomanno

Any center fielder who drops a routine fly should be mauled by lions immediately.

These guys need to lean some responsibility.

Dude.. the Pens have 9 misconduct penalties this season so far. The Flyers have 2. Their first game misconduct came last night.
- jak521

again.

im not even trying to argue with the fact that who does the most or whatever.

downie is gonna downie. i get that. same with scrubs that cant play like sill, farnham, and whatnot.

all im saying is that it wasnt like these troops were especially flown in just for the flyers.

Never a fan of that argument for a simple reason....where's the responsibility on the " player"... It's as much about your own play as it is about who you play with.
- landros 2

Not a good argument. The situations and who a player plays with is a factor. If Downie is playing in mostly offensive situations and with Stamkos, and Read is playing with Couturier checking top lines, in a large percentage of defensive zone starts, which player is playing in a better situation to put up numbers? Yet Read has better numbers then Downie does, and in past seasons has been able to put up ES scoring numbers at a 2nd line level of production? Read has been a pretty strong player for the Flyers in the past few seasons. He isn't having a good year this year, and it's a big reason for the Flyers struggles. That's how important he has been to this team.

Things would probably look a lot different in this series if the Pens could win some games. You always look bad when you lose. If the Pens were winning these games, we'd be talking about how the Flyers need to tone it down and stop getting the Pens pumped up.

20 maybe even 10 years ago, that hit would be considered sending a message or protecting one's territory, now its highschool bullpoop of we dont like that guy so even tho won the fight we'll just say its cause he fought dirty.
- JoeRussomanno

Checking from behind and boarding has always been a penalty in the NHL. 10 -20 years ago, what Rinaldo did was still a penalty.

So we're going to make a trade evaluated by a 40-game sample as opposed to his entire body of work to date?

In that case, let's trade Scott Laughton for Derek Roy, who has the same amount of points in only 11 games.

That's how I interpreted what you were saying in the post I replied to. It's not sending a message or protecting territory. It's a penalty.

It's only part of the argument...numbers are great but only tell part of the story. There are element Downie brings that read can't.
Reads not checking the other teams top forwards when he's on the pp is he ?.....
Reads been a decent player for a couple years.....I just don't like him as much as Downie as an over all player.....I realize that Downie has not played well when in Philly, but he's put together some really good years as well.

You said you would trade Read for Downie. So, since you're basing Read's stats on this year alone, I'm doing the same for Laughton.

There are very few elements that Downie brings that read can't. Downie can fight and is a more physical player. If both players are at the top of their game, Read is easily the better player in my opinion. Read gets 2nd unit PP time, and I wouldn't be surprised if Downie gets equal PP time to Read.

I don't think I'd call 1:46 per game (9th on the team) "a ton of PP time."

it maybe a penalty, imo only cause it was a tad late, but years ago flyerfans especially wouldve appreciated it.
