I like the Gate.. I've only been there like three times but I wouldn't mind again. Wish Bar Bill wasn't so far..same with Lewiston.. NT I could make happen though.

I'm sure StL would match anything for Tarasenko anyways... And that's IF he'd even sign with us
- jdfitz77

There is no way an offer sheet would happen. If we wanted to seriously upgrade this offseason it will be preying on cap-strapped teams.

Backes is a player I always wanted from the blues

he's a UFA in 18 months and I would consider targeting him if he gets to that point and the sabres want to move reinhart or girgens to the wing

StL does have some cap issues in the off season, but I'm sure they'll be able to work it all out

He'd be a nice target. Backed has also played on the wing.
Tough to imagine them not keeping their captain though

It's not just about that hit. It's the precedent that has been set. The notion that players police themselves is garbage, and has been for a long, long time. And the best part, it's usually the inept teams that are the ones that carry guys like this (though not always). It's no coincidence that a team like the Buffalo Sabres, who held the notion that on-ice liabilities such as John Scott and even Patrick Kaleta are "necessary", are where they are in the standings.

Was this discussed recently? Might be the most intereting article that I've read (blah blah) in weeks.

As long as top 9 players are allowed to get away with dirty, cheap hits with minimal slap on the wrists, there will always be a place for scott and kaleta

sad isn't it

Garth just posted up a blog mentioning how the Sabres need to act fast and start shipping out players before the Yotes do, also trading Myers for ROR. Do I dare say he's right on starting before the Yotes for trades?

I was trying to explain to my wife last night what a terrible time it was to be a Sabres fan. Those really were terrible years.

Oh my, this will make the Rinaldo stuff interesting. Pulled from a comment in the Pens blog:

Some have commented on what a joke the NHL's stance on player safety is. You want to know what is really a joke?

Who will be weighing in on how to discipline Rinaldo - none other than Chris Pronger, who is on the Flyer's fricking payroll!

Serious question:

Is this a chicken and egg thing, though?

If the players don't get to police themselves anymore, and have the ability to do this stuff without having any fear of physical retribution, is that what leads to this sort of behaviour?

I think the league has to either weed these guys out of the game completely, or permit the old time enforcers to do their thing.

(PS. I'm not saying that either Kaleta or Scott are the right kind of "old time enforcer.")
