Philly is all out of buyouts.
- niteislander

all out of compliance buyouts, they can buyout anyone they want but it counts against their cap.

I still can't believe the turn around with this team. Last year after 46 games the Isles were 17-22-7 with 41 points. They were 3 games into a 4 game winning streak which was their longest winning streak of the season. They did have three 3 game winning streaks, the last one was to end the season. Also last year they didn't earn 63 points until the 71st game. Their record was 27-35-9.

I can't tell if your location is a joke or an actual Butch quote, like his, "Tavares has W I N N engraved in his DNA"

It's not Butch, it's Homer J. Simpson. Though they sometimes sound similar.

It's even more uplifting because the team as a whole has plenty of room to get better and everyone important to the roster is under contract or an RFA aside from Boychuk. They're also collectively very young.

Even tho im on the side of Boychuk resigning,

say he doesn't, this team still has the kids in system and also wouldn't have issues anymore trying to attract FA's bc the losing culture curse seems to be lifted/changed..... So, the isles are in a much different outlook than prior years of not being respected, times have changed......

it wouldn't be the end of the world, as we do have reinhart and pulock both coming along, but I think the leadership and attitude boychuk brings is a major plus and would be missed. I also don't see anything in free agency that would be an adequate replacement, frankly if Boychuk doesn't sign he's the top ufa available this year.

Figures when the Isles become an attractive team the FA market dries up. It is great the Isles have Reinhart and Pulock. Bringing back Boychuck would be huge though. Losing Boychuck would hurt for many reasons.

The only player that comes to mind is M. Green (WASH) RHD with offensive potential, just has injury issues, he'd probably be as close as possible to Boychuk and think DET has there sights on him too......

Totally different style of game though, Green doesn’t play physical and is more offensively talented, but is also quite often injured. Right now having Hamonic and Boychuk means our top two pairings both have a mobile, physical player capable of moving people from in front of the net. Replace Boychuk with Green and you lose quite a bit defensively.
The one good thing about the ufa market being so weak is that we’re built with a huge chunk of young talent that will get better and is under contract or are rfa’s, this means we have room to grow and other teams who don’t have the youth coming to add talent will need to try and make trades to improve. I’d much rather be in our situation.

I think he's tailed off and is more of a defensive dman. Not sure but think Green is a lot younger as well. I think Green will be 26 or 28yrs old, something like that but not sure....

Actually Green is really underrated defensively, just that his whole career is known for being offensive but actually is responsible defensively and can engage with clearing the crease. Now I'm not comparing the 2, just stating that Green can play D much better than what some might think.....

He's no green but he'd be a great signing for you guys regardless of what happens with Boychuk. Imagine keeping Boychuk and signing him? Stacked.

Green tends to disappear when hit a lot. We've basically neutralized him all those years we faced the caps in the playoffs by hitting him a lot every game.

True but not worth the $$$ being a 3rd pairing Dman. The isles would go after Green 1st before Michalek bc of age and offensive potential. I believe Pulock is the starting RHD next year on 3rd pairing......

He really doesn't, the Caps have played a wide-open system for years and that has exposed there Dman bc lack of F's back checking to help, now with a more discipline system w/Trotz, I believe he's having a better year. Now grant it, I might say bc of his injuries that he might not engage as much in the hitting department and maybe doesn't want to get reinjured before he becomes a FA?

Methot, Hainsey someone to fill in when Vish goes down again, and spell guys in late March and early April. You won't have to give up much and they can walk in the off season to allow the young guys in Bport to fill in the holes next season.

Boychuk isn't getting a $50M deal. He'll get similar to what Staal just got: about $5.8M per for about six years. He'll get close to $40M and if he gets that kind of offer from the Isles, I think he'll take it if he really does like it with the Isles.
- Jethro09

I wish cap geek was not gone, that said take what Johnny is making now, add Yashins buyout $ which end after this year and make it at a 5 yr deal. Done and you have not spent 1 penny more then this year which leaves you in good shape to lock up Mr. Leddy.

He's a UFA even solid ones don't bring back all that much. And he is solid not spectacular, he is a 4th dman on this squad. If they want too much Id settle for Hainsey.

I wouldn't call Michalek a 3rd pairing defenseman. He can log 22 minutes a night and play consistent, reliable, shutdown defense. He has limited offensive upside but you're not going to win a cup with 6 Erik Karlssons as your blue line. You need some guys like Michalek who can eat up minutes and shutdown the opposition.
