Hey Dan, any word out of the Islanders regarding an Okposo injury? Came across some info this morning that suggests there's something going on with him beyond the normal midseason bumps and bruises.

15. Speaking of defencemen, word is the Islanders and Johnny Boychuk’s agents (Gerry Johanssen/Steve Kotlowitz) have been working for a while to try and find common ground, but no one is saying anything, not even GM Garth Snow in a phone conversation.

That's a good thing because snow never says anything publicly. He even mentioned earlier you won't hear one word about negotiations with Boychuk when they happen. Unless Boychuks agents are asking for 9 million a year

Agreed. We will only hear if he signs or there is no deal possible. No news shouldn't be a concern.

I'm happy they've been talking for awhile. At least there's that news. Snow is usually pretty notoriously tight-lipped

I don't care what the reasoning was I Don't like having him play in back to back nights. You would think Cap would have learned when the last time Halak did that He was imediately put on the IR afterwards. This is a MUCH bigger work load than he is used to already. He is Clearly our best player so far this season. If he gets hurt this wonderful story could go south very fast.
- niteislander

Chad Johnson has to play better or else the Isles have no choice but to play Halak. Johnson can do it, he did it fine up in Boston. Johnson just needs to get his s**t together for this stretch run.

I am hoping Boychuk is signed before deadline.
- niteislander

I could see something getting done during the break if a signing is inevitable. Gives the sides time to get together and discuss numbers and term.

Best to assume that Boychuk is one and done here. He will easily be the #1 UFA this summer. I hope I'm wrong but the guy is looking at a $50 million payday on July 1.
- Snowblind

Boychuk isn't getting a $50M deal. He'll get similar to what Staal just got: about $5.8M per for about six years. He'll get close to $40M and if he gets that kind of offer from the Isles, I think he'll take it if he really does like it with the Isles.

I think they'd buy him and Umberger out at the end of this season.
