This comes directly from Eklund:
Yes..this season...but after the Cup Finals last year and for the past three years there is no way in the world you could have gotten the Penguins/Preds to make that trade. If they hadn't have had To buy out Richards the Rangers would have bought out Nash without a doubt
Is he seriously saying that the rangers would have done that? I know some of us wanted it, and many probably wouldn't have minded, but seriously? That's like... what??
Edit: Srry guys, didn't see you posted this already. |

Weren't there a ton of people saying that was going to happen after the playoffs? - Cptmjl
there wasn't anyone saying that would happen.
The only thing you had was frustrated fans after the finals saying we should buy out Nash and not Richards, which I was definitely not one of.
But the Rangers organization never gave any indication they had given up on Nash at all. |

Too many idiots with internet access. But, one of my main complaints about fandom in general, is that some fans tend not to look at the bigger picture, instead proposing rash decisions when players go through bad stretches. If you run your team like that, chances are you'll be at the bottom of the league every year. |

Not me, I wanted to buy out Girardi for tripping over his own feet. |

I do remember a few people mentioning the possibility of using it on Nash over Richards during the regular season when Nash was rock bottom. Don't think it was any regular and no one really mentioned it seriously. |

This is the greatest analogy I've ever seen.
Stewart is playing on a terrible team, he brings something we don't have on this team, a big tough physical winger that allows us to take Glass out of the lineup without having to worry about not having toughness in the lineup. He had a falling out in St Louis the last few years and was playing 10 minutes a night. Put him on this team in the middle of a playoff run and I believe he will be a great addition.
Hagelins speed is going to be replaced by Duclair Buchnevich and Fast. Tell me who we have in our system that brings what Stewart brings. - nyrangers9479
He wasn't playing on terrible team for the Blues from 2011-12 to 2013-14. He had seasons of 30, 36 and 26 points. In that same span 38, 24 and 33 for Hagelin.. Chris Stewart's play had regressed before Buffalo even thought of him. Thank you. |

It wasn't even a buyout thought. People were saying trade Nash, which I thought myself. But good ol' capgeek made that impossible. He had a NMC. Nobody thought of buying him out. |

sorry to be a broken record, but I still think MSL is the one at risk. That's due to his age and whatever salary he gets hits the cap regardless of what happens to him. If he signs a low base with incentives, it could help the situation, pushing out cap hit to 2016-17, beneficial only if cap rises. If MSL comes cheaper than he is now, it could provide enough room to sign Zucc and Hags. As much as I love Hags, give me Zucc, who plays bigger than his size, is good on the forecheck, can score and possesses the puck. - airjan23
Lol, Jan I think you and I stand alone promoting this everytime...when the time comes, I think MSL is also the player walking or retiring. Hags and Zucc at a combined Cap hit of probably 7M together is a good value for what they both bring to the team. |

if all it took was a combined 7 mil to sign Hags and Zucc to extensions I think the Rangers would sign those in a heartbeat right now.

I don't think it is too farfetched that the Rangers can get them both wrapped up for around $7 million. Zucc doesn't strike me as the type that will try to break the bank provided that the Rangers give him some long term security. He's said as much in the past.

Back to more important things, the Sens are 13-1-1 since '06 at MSG, we haven't won a regulation game since '09 |

Well Zucc is making what 3.5 this year? I wonder with how his season is going right now for Zucc if Sather offered 4 - 4 he would sign. |

I really would like him at 5 years 20 million, I just get the feeling it will take more |

He's taken below market deals twice for the Rangers. Personally, I think the guy is in love with the New York and the Rangers, and will take much less than what he can get on the open market.
Didn't he say a couple of years back that it was the New York Rangers or Europe for him? |

Maybe closer to $8M. Unless either player has a remarkable 2nd 1/2 or playoffs, I'm taking a guess but we sign Zucc for 4.5 and Hags for 3.25. |

one of my wife's former students plays for the Tri City Storm in the USHL, (same team Jaden Schwartz came from) so we watch their games online sometimes. That team has a kid named Chris Wilkie who dominates, decent size winger. The central scouting bureau has him ranked 122nd for the draft this coming June.
if the Rangers were to grab him with a mid to late round pick I think it could be a heist. Kid has serious hands. |

Bozak, interesting... I wouldn't trade Zucc for Bozak but I would entertain the idea of Hagelin for Bozak. Shift Hayes to wing. Hayes can also PK where Hags was, he has shown good defensive instinct and has a huge reach. He may not immediately be as good as Hags but his puck handling and shifty possession ability could translate into great forced turnovers on the PK. Then keep Zucc and give him 4 years 18M. |

I'm with you on this but I do t think we'll have nearly enough after resigning Step and MSL, we need both of them to take team friendly deals but after each win I'm sure that Step's agent is going all Jumbo Thornton |

I hear you. I remember there being talk of it from several outlets and quite a few on here were hoping for it. Couldn't remember if there was anything concrete? In those situations you usually find out when it happens. My point is it doesnt seem so outlandish that someone speculated it could have happened. I dont think anyone would have been overly shocked at the time? |

I'd rather try a deal for Vermette centered around Miller and/or Mcilrath |
