"While Nash will never be Patrice Bergeron, a possession player that can start in the defensive zone and finish their shifts by putting pressure or pucks on the opposing netminder, there are expectations on him when he’s being trotted out against top competition."

True that Nash will never be Patrice Bergeron but this guy is acting like he's a total liability in his own end?

Only forward in the top ten of goals, gwg, +/- and takeaways, he may be the first Player to win the Hart and Selke but they hate the Rangers so much I doubt he gets nominated for either

Speed team trades their fastest player for a pair of cement skates.....no thanks
- HankdaTank

Team trades a guy with 8 goals 2 of them empty netters and 1 in a 6-1 victory as the 5th goal, is pointless in his last 7, hasn't scored a goal outside of those last 3 I pointed out since NOVEMBER 23rd, went on a 17 game goal less streak last year, hasn't gone past his career high of 38 points in his rookie season
FOR
A former first round pick that can play on the 3rd line and provide a physical presence we are lacking in a big way IMO.

Before you point out all the positives hags brings, defensively responsible, fast, very good on the PK, hard working grinder, etc I get all that. But at the end of the day he needs to put the puck in the net. We have too many guys that bring what he brings coming up (Duclair Buchnevich Fast) what we don't have is a big physical winger that can throw big hits and stand his own against guys like Lucic and Martin. We can get Glass out of the lineup without having to worry about someone taking liberties and are not sacrificing scoring to do it. Before getting traded to buffalo last year he was on pace for 22 goals. We're not trading hags for a bag of pucks here.

Chris Stewart had 15 goals and and 26 points in 63 games last year. This year, he has 6 goals and 15 points in 45 games. Carl Hagelin is the better player.

Zuccarello will have balls the size of cantaloupes if he demands a salary of five million per.

True, Hagelin is going to be much cheaper than Zucc. I would think.
- mdw7413

As he should be -hags is a one dimensional player;
Though i really like his dimension. Zucc has way more
Going on. I think his points totals this season are an aberration
A bit like Nash in the playoffs - lack of puck luck to a degree.

Hagelin performed in the playoffs, he's not producing at his level but neither has Zucc, neither one should be traded, if there's no money then Zucc just walks, Duclair is a better fit to replace Zucc than Hags, PK is just as important

Since Hagelin has come into the league, he's outscored Stewart in every year but one. Including this year.

Haglin has definitely regressed offensively this year on the 3rd line, I'v noticed he instinctively looks to make the safe play instead trying to set up a teammate. He gets these split seconds of chances with open lanes with teammates either driving or parked at the net, but instead he just dumps it into the corner or skates behind the net to pass it back to the point. The line seems to have the best forechecking pressure but rarely actually creates a good chance on net. Is it just me that's seeing this?

He's becoming more and more of a checking only type player is probably better served on the 4th line.

This is the greatest analogy I've ever seen.
Stewart is playing on a terrible team, he brings something we don't have on this team, a big tough physical winger that allows us to take Glass out of the lineup without having to worry about not having toughness in the lineup. He had a falling out in St Louis the last few years and was playing 10 minutes a night. Put him on this team in the middle of a playoff run and I believe he will be a great addition.
Hagelins speed is going to be replaced by Duclair Buchnevich and Fast. Tell me who we have in our system that brings what Stewart brings.

I can't imagine the Rangers giving up on Hagelin's entire career to acquire a rental.

Not Sather's style.

on the Nash vs Neal blog, Eklund himself says that if the Rangers hadn't had to buyout Brad Richards over the summer, they would have bought out Nash without a doubt.

Stewart is also has a horrible work ethic. I was 100% on the Stewart train last year before Buffalo acquired him and am still open to trading for him, but when you trade to acquire depth for the playoffs, you deal prospects that aren't on the NHL roster or picks. Not quality roster players. It's a lateral move dealing Hagelin for Stewart. You want to add Stewart without subtracting any current roster player.

I think if you add Stewart, the fact that he's a pending UFA, has a chance to compete for the Cup, and might be playing for his NHL career in the playoffs is a great recipe for a hardworking player that plays beyond his ability. If Stewart finishes the year on Buffalo or gets dealt to a playoff team and does nothing, his NHL career is likely over.

They usually get up for pens games but playing on the wrong end of a back to back is not going to help their cause.

I just want the Rangers to win tonight and head into the break on a good note. Even if the Rangers are in third place, by the time the league takes off for All Star Weekend, they will have multiple games in hand on Pittsburgh and the Islanders.

The thought of 7 days w/out hockey coming off a loss to the sens is giving me a headache already.

Have to win this game, no excuses tonight.

Question, not saying it would get this far, but curious about the status.

If Hagelin is here and both Hagelin & Sather cant agree to a contract, as an RFA, is his only two options arbitration and an offer sheet? And then whatever number is awarded in arbitration, Sather can pay it, or Hagelin is free to walk?

I believe that you have to qualify your RFA at a certain percentage above their current salary, or they become unrestricted if you fail to do so.

Ok, thanks Pete. So many rules and poop. Hard to follow it all.
