Yeah, was going to edit to add Giroux, I forgot he plays all situations. Can't say I really saw much of him in his Columbus days and maybe that's where he got some of his bad reputation, but as a Ranger, I couldn't be more impressed with how he plays the game.

Actually, while on Columbus Nash was kinda seen as a top 5 player in the NHL. The second he got traded to NY, he was overrated.

No, I didn't like MSL when he demanded a trade since his GM didn't pick him for the original Olympic lineup.

But in general, no I don't like Rags' players. I respect some of them, but don't like them.

I prefer that term "requested a trade" over demanded
- RAGSareDANGERus

haha, as you wish.

But that's one thing I don't like, when players "request" a trade publicly. It hamstrings their GM. No one did it quite as well a Dan Heatley (I think it was him), who requested a trade, had the trade announced, then decided he didn't wanna go there (San Jose, maybe?).

In Columbus, he was a top-5 goal scorer. I don't know about top-5 player, though.

Seeing as you're a Rangers' fan, and I'm a Flyers' fan, I didn't think this would be such a revelation.

Well, I just remember the whole thing with Nash in Columbus was he isn't all that good defensively and he doesn't show up for big games. Not that Columbus during his tenure had many big games. Who knows, I just don't like to make opinions of players unless I have seen them play a lot.

please stepan is scoring at a PPG pace and brass will probably hit 70points, the entire hockey world agrees that bergeron is a #1 center, well stepan is as sound defensively (safe for faceoffs) as him and a better point producer IMO, and brass has made everyone around him better since arriving here zucc, pouliot,nash.. all put it together when paired with brass, he may be one off the most underrated players in the nhl
- webleedblue

I agree both are very good. just not sure if they are #1 centers yet... they have some areas they need to improve to be #1 centers but i do think they will be #1 centers. if Steps gets better at FOs and continues to produce points and finally learns that sometimes its better to shoot then to force a pass he will be a true legit #1 center.

I watched a ton of Nash's game at Columbus. he was bad defensively. he would barely play D and just coast around until the puck came to him, then he would turn on a switch and watch out! he's been one of my favorite players since he was drafted so the transformation he has made since coming to the rangers I can tell you is drastic... he went from a pure goal scorer to now being an MVP candidate. he literally is the best player on the ice every single game. no matter who they play. right now I dont know of any other player I would take over him. hes just playing at such a high level.

Nash can safely reclaim his spot as one of the ten best forwards in the NHL today.

What do you guys think of Jake Voracek? Based on his past 3 seasons, is he top-20? Top-50?

To me there is a difference of being satisfied how a trade worked out for a team, compared to how the season finished. The Rangers don't sniff the finals last year without MSL. Maybe no one else shares the same feeling but I am extremely satisfied with the trade.
- TPC

I totally agree; for one, you can't really use hindsight when
It comes to the SCF as just getting there is a rare feat and
worth a ton -just to have a crack at it. It had been 20 effin years!
Can't just be written off as nothing because they didnt win it.
Trading almost any player to get to the finals is probably worth
It.

Voracek is easily a top 15 forward. This is his first year that he has reached that top tier level. I know he had a solid season points wise, last season, but he is on pace to finish with damn near 100 points this season.

Flyers have two of the best forwards in the world. Giroux has been a top ten forward for the last three or four seasons now.

They do. And they have a legit goalie for the first time since...well, since the mid-90s. Their defense and bottom-6 forwards are just piss poor for the most part. Really, 1 or 2 impact players on defense make them an ECF contender. But they're just bad enough that every mistake ends up in their net.

Flyers are not constructed well at the moment. Very good top six forwards and Mason has been strong for them for the most part. But the defense is heinous, old, slow and expensive. The bottom line forward depth is shoddy at best as well.

How are they doing in the prospects department? Any players on the rise in their organization?

Their prospects are their ray of hope. Travis Sanheim is having a great year in the WHL and Button compared him to Ryan McDonagh (I can see why). They play a very similar game, Sanheim just needs to grow into his frame. Sam Morin was having a nice year until he broke his jaw. He made Canada's WJC as a 7th defender. Shayne Gostisbehere has incredible speed, and a very heavy, accurate shot, but he tore an ACL and missed most of the season. Mark Alt is a viable 6/7 defender. Robert Hagg, if he can ever get his head straight, has top-4 tools. They could conceivably ice a defense of:

Sanheim - Gostisbehere
Hagg - Morin
Alt - ???

But that's 3-4 years away. They have some capable bottom-6 forward prospects, and Anthony Stolarz is in the AHL after 2 years as the starting goalie for London in the OHL. So, no top-level forwards, but a lot of D and depth forwards.

If that happened, I think there'd be a rematch of last year's ECF. The Lightning would win but be pretty beat up by Boston, and the Isles/Caps would exhaust each other.

I don't want any part of Boston or the Islanders in 1st round. I definitely want other teams to deal with their size in that round. Ovechkin could definitely terrorize that Islander blueline and Halak too.

I don't think the Capitals will ever be a real threat under the Ovechkin blanket. Even with Trotz, still too much run-and-gun. They may beat NYI, but those forwards will put a beating on the Caps' defense.

I can't believe I just read through 5 pages of the Rangers make bad trades, essentially. We should be talking about Nash be considered for the hart or the Rangers making a team with 2 top five players looking a bit slow, and definitely frustrated. But instead were talking MSL demands and whatever else he's done. Good job Flyers fan.
