so basically, if they are using iodine in this manner, they are inept?
- JoeRussomanno

You know, I will say. I never thought we would have a debate, or hell even a topic about iodine on HB. That's some good poop.

The topic and debate is about Giroux and his wound, and whether he should be playing or not.

Says who?

There's almost no doubt in my mind one of Morin or Ghost will play a significant amount of games next year. I hope it's Ghost; I want Morin to be brought a long as slow as possible.

That being said, this team has way too many pieces now to continue to be this bad. Chalk it up as a lost season to a combination of injuries, poor roster construction, and questionable coaching decisions. So we had a bad year transitioning from one organizational philosophy (Stevens/Lavy and Homer) to the next (Berube? and Hextall).

But this team should 100% bounce back next season. Missing the playoffs again would be absolutely unacceptable. Two scorers in the leagues top 5, Simmonds, Coots, Laughton, legit starting goalie with a .920SV%.....it's not like we need to re-invent the wheel.

- mochoson

Morin or Ghost don't make this team any better next year. Flyers need a #1 and a #2 and they have neither right now and neither will be right away.

That's fine.

I'll wait to see how the youngsters pan out instead of mortgaging the future once again.

Like Edmonton though, the prospect might not pan out. Just like trading, drafting doesn't always Pan out. Got to take it 1 year at a time.

after a car ride from allentown to buffalo, you would think a person would be an unhealthy scratch.

Iodine leaking through? Why the hell are they bathing his leg in iodine before the game. Iodine is used to clean wounds, or surfaces generally before a procedure.

Im not saying its blood, I cant tell really for sure but I'd laugh if its iodine.

- flyer_nutter

Also, iodine is brown...so..

Secondly, you only put iodine on intact skin. Iodine should be used to clean the skin around the open wound, so debris isn't "moved" into it. I've been told the best way to keep an open/stitched wound is good ol triple antibiotic ointment and then covering it.

Highly doubt they're drenching his cut in iodine, as you said.

That's why I think that next season will see the Flyers be a bubble team again. If they keep most of the current D, and only manage tweaks, there's a high possibility they will be a fringe team.

If they sell pieces off, unless they make a couple of bold moves, they'll still have a few holes. There's nothing wrong with that, because you can't expect Morin, Sanheim, Gostisbehere or Hagg to step in and be studs off the bat.

That's one appealing aspect of dumping some contracts. If they can clear some money they might be able to change the mix up or have available cap space if teams run into the situation that faced the Bruins and Blackhawks this past summer.

I don't know that it's Iodine, all there is, is speculation. Iodine could also be used to promote healing, and to prevent infection.
- MJL

Incorrect, quiz kid. Iodine is not believed to promote wound healing.

And if you don't believe me, or think I'm speculating, then here:

"A systematic review was performed of 27 randomised clinical trials, reporting on chronic, acute, burn wounds, pressure sores, and skin grafts. Main outcome parameters were wound healing, bacterial count, and adverse effects. Iodine did not lead to a reduction or prolongation of wound-healing time compared with other (antiseptic) wound dressings or agents."

The key for the Flyers is, if they move a big piece, to get full value.

I'm not a medical expert. I could google it also and post that some believe it does, but I won't. I'm not here to debate the use of Iodine. I don't even know if it was used. The point I made that I think is most important to the topic, is that I don't believe that the Flyers would put Giroux in the lineup if there was a risk to long term damage by playing.
