Seabrook, Demers, Goligski, Yandle, Giordano, Campbell, Bieksa, Hamhuis, and Buff are UFA not this off-season but next. Not all will hit the market but that is the time to go chasing names not this year. As well the cap situation should be more favourable for the club.

Flyers should look at more affordable options this year. Beauchemin, Sekera, Oduya, Michalek and Petry. Stop chasing the shiny object because its the best thing in a given year.

That means leave Ehrhoff, Martin and Green alone.

Since December, the Flyers have given up 62 goals against. MacDonald has been on the ice for 12 of those goals against. Guy is a solid defenseman.

Well considering the Flyers give up a poop ton on PP goals, and MacDonald doesn't see much PK time, I'm sure that has nothing to do with it right?

They said it's difficult, but not impossible. Scott Gomez was deemed untradeable. In my opinion it's a moot point anyway, as I don't want them to trade MacDonald.

it's tough when i can make an argument for or against keeping almost anyone on this team. amac's contract isn't desirable but it's market value, read's been poor this year but he's a swiss army knife, coburn/streit would fetch a decent return but keeping them wouldn't be the worst thing in the world etc..

i'm not against keeping amac, or a better way to look at it is i'm not going to continue to exhaust myself over his existence here if it is indeed market value and he's not movable yadda yadda yadda.

i think grossman is the odd man out. movable and would save us some money. if Hexy could somehow unload vinny and grossman i would consider it a successful offseason. as other's have said, if coburn gets you a first you do it but i'm not eager to trade him just to trade him.

what's the consensus here on schultz and carlo going forward?

He's not the biggest problem they have. I don't love him, don't hate him. Wish he was more impactful, but he is what he is.

To me, there is nothing more important than figuring out what in the blue hell happened to the PK, finding another winger for the top 9, and getting more hockey sense/size in the lineup.

They aren't so far away that I can't see what they could become. But at the same time, they need pieces

I agree with your take on it. Colaiacovo is gone after this year. Schultz may or may not be back next year depending on cost.

I agree on the impactful part. I think MacDonald needs to become more aggressive offensively, and produce more points offensively. He has the skating ability and the hands to do it. I think the way he has been used and the role he has been in, in the past has made him cautious. I have seen signs of him making progress in that area.

The PK has destroyed their season.

He has a dark side though. I remember when Toronto had him for a year or two I think it was he was brutal. As soon as he got back to Anaheim he found his game.

Where does the Amac hate club meet? Bet that fan club isn't aware of the numbers I just gave.

The numbers I just dismantled. The Flyers give up more PP goals than any team in the NHL. MacDonald doesn't sniff the PK.

MacDonald is going to need to be paired with a tough defender with size and good hockey sense

It can't be an average guy. Gotta be a good player who can cover for his weaknesses

I think he's better than that, but not by a ton.

Ideally, he can anchor your third pair & help on the PK & PP, while being able to slide up into the top four here & there as injuries occur. He's a good skater, has decent offensive instincts & is a decent passer. In his own end, MacDonald can be very solid, he's decent positionally and good at containment.

He's bad in the neutral zone. He gets too passive too often and can get taken advantage of by an aggressive forechecking team. He also will get exposed if he's forced to play too much against top end competition, which happened in NY & is happening here this season at times.

I don't hate him, I really dislike his contract & I really hate not having a 2nd rounder this year because they traded for him.

I agree because one of the knocks against MacDonald is that he is not physical. So a physical defender with size would compliment him.

it gets to the point where you question whether we should feel guilty for moving/talking about moving pieces that may pan out had we been a little more patient or if we should feel guilty for icing the same unsuccessful group over and over again. which mistake do we feel better about making?

Nah. He's soft as a marshmallow. He wouldn't help the PK.
