I know little about him, but I agree, his size is scary.
- MJL

He's scary good, I've been watching him since his debut with the London Knights.......He's done well under Dale Hunter.

Would Mike Green be a nice #1 on this team?
- puckhead17

He's not a #1 in my opinion.

Dare I say, the (frank)ing Jets as well.

Trouba, Morrissey, Petan, Lowry, Ehlers.

I don't like the team, but they haven't wasted picks. As one core hits its prime and dies off, the kids are infused in.

How's that discount working out?
- PLindbergh31

better than if we paid him $5 mil to have the same injury.
i'd say the discount is working out fine considering the circumstances. next.

Speaking of weight, Embiid is now 300+ pounds! He's the next Shaq baby!

I will say his skating is such slop and it's not going to get better. If he could just be a bit stronger and in his toes he would be a very very good player
- Just5

I personally don't see an issue with his skating. Maturing physically and gaining weight, which I'm sure is going to happen, will help.

If it's me:

Keep Streit and one of Grossmann/Schenn

Keep Del Zotto

Only move Coburn for a first-rounder; if not, keep him

Move Schultz if you don't move Coburn, even if you finish the season with Coliacovo and Manning playing

Two of these four need to get moved before free agency: Schultz, Coburn, Grossmann or Schenn. I have no doubts two of those four can get moved by FA

If they made him available for trade he'd also probably fetch a decent haul.
- ob18

I think his age and the amount of years left on his deal, might limit the suitors.

I'd move Streit if the deal is a good one, I'm willing to live with MDZ, Ghost or whomever running the pp next year. At best, they won't be a contender til 16-17 and more likely not until 1 or 2 seasons beyond that. For the same reason, i'd consider moving Coburn as well, but the deal would have to be really good. They can always move Coburn next year when he's a true rental.

3-4 years ago he was, but he might be the best option, has a UFA status, and the Caps can't afford him.

this is the case for literally every team in the league. easier said than done obviously.

at this point i'd go back to nashville and see if schenn/coots could start a weber conversation again. the asking price would be higher than it was originally and it wouldn't happen before the year is over. but am i correct that weber does not have a nmc?

as long as G and jake aren't involved i'd try to sweep them off their feet.
or maybe i should just let go

- black_francis

Not sure about the NMC. I have no problem with trying, but their success this season has probably closed that door.

I agree with you and MJL: A No. 1 defenseman isn't walking through that door. I get that, totally understand it.

But we touched on this yesterday, about Vinny on the fourth line, when we all agreed that the Flyers don't likely have the personnel that Berube would prefer to ice.

They're last on the PK. Find players who can even do that just a little better, and they have maybe, what, 6 more points this season? It's fair to say this PK has cost them at least three games, right?

This team can address needs with Umberger's $2.9 million from a buyout -- I'm not saying that because I hate the guy. I'm saying that because the PK is a tire fire, the fourth line does need to get better (again), and the Flyers need to figure out who is going to play on Couturier's RW.

Maybe you can't fix all of those. But you gotta fix some of those. You have to!

- AllInForFlyers

I'm not saying to ignore the issues in any way, shape or form.

I'm saying weigh the long term impact against the short term gain.

What happens in the summer of 2016 when Voracek is getting his $8mm deal? What happens when Couturier and Brayden Schenn jump to $4mm a year each?

That $1.5mm in dead space might be a big issue, or lead to having to trade a player you need to keep a better one.

I could say why is a team that isn't anything resembling a contender signing a 39 year old dman, but that wouldn't make any sense right?

I don't think he ever was a true #1 in the way that I look at it. A true #1 is a minutes eater in all situations. While Green is not putting up the same gaudy offensive numbers, he has actually become a better all around defenseman now then he was in the past in my opinion.

Not sure the kid sticks it here long term. The search for consistency will be key but he better find another way to contribute when he isn't getting points. When he isn't doing so, he's just a warm body.

Coburn's 6-5, 220, can skate and makes $4.5 million -- they could move him tomorrow, if he wasn't hurt. His term won't hurt moving him

If he doesn't come back the Flyers will actually dodge a bullet with Timonen's contract. If he had played, the Flyers would've been stuck with a carryover bonus penalty on next years cap. Timonen's contract was actually a bad deal in my opinion.

the jets have very nice little stockpile of youth. no doubt. but right now, it hasnt really gotten them anywhere.

the isles NHL success the past few seasons, culminating in being one of the leagues top teams this year, really highlights what i mean. Yeah, they were fortunate to have a guy like JT. You really arent going to get a guy like that other than being bad and getting to draft one. Had other quality in house pieces like Okposo and Hamonic. But the team had glaring holes on the back end and in net, and goes out and addressed it via three very good, shrewd moves.

granted, i understand fixes arent always easy. you cant bring in guys that simply arent available. but still. it can be done, and teams are best served utilizing a variety of methods to improve and address specific needs.

it's entirely possible we gave him the option see if there is a team out there he'd want to play for that would give him that cash because we were sure as sh!t not going to over pay for a 39 year old defenseman.

if a guy like kimo wants to end his career as a flyer on a discounted contract, you are going to take it.

That's where I am -- Schenn won't be UFA; if he doesn't get his poop in gear and become more consistent, I'd do it like Slats does his guys in New York: Tear his ass apart in arbitration
