The only reason journalists are writing about it is because of McDavid. If Marner was the best forward prospect nobody would be saying anything about it. It's a big deal because of McDavid. I remember "Fail for Nail" and "stop winnin for MacKinnon" and talk of tanking for those guys was never in a negative light.

I also thought of something that guys like Harrington have pointed out. They say that teams like Detroit did it the right way by not tanking. However, these same guys have criticized the Sabres for not bringing up kids who are probably better than some of the vets that are here. The Detroit model (correctly) says to let the kids play several years in the minors so that they learn to play the pro grame.

I'm not saying it disgraces the Sabres brand, but I do think the league as a whole needs to change the system.
