Could have also been just not fully recovered from the mumps. Never had it and not sure how the illness goes... but if it just made his body weak and he went back on the ice right after being cleared, it could have just taken this long to get back to 100%.

Honestly, the Penguins have been their own worst enemy in this one. Seems to usually be the case. The Islanders for some reason induce the Penguins to do stupid stuff, and moments later the puck is in the back of the net.
