Marc Staal's six-year extension with NYR expected to have AAV of about $5.7M. Heavy lifting on negotiations done; still finalizing paperwork
So Staal basically gets the same contract MacDonald got. |

Colaiacovo was also way up ice ahead of a forward on the Canucks 4th goal leading to a breakaway. Simmonds failed to get the puck deep but Colaiacovo was way out of position on the play. Colaiacovo is in a tough spot having sat for so long, but he hasn't been very good in his two games back. - MJL
Yeah, I forgot about that one.
CC is a good depth guy, but the way some people think he should be a 20 minute a night regular baffles me. |

Unit 2 is plain dysfunctional. They should just be trying everything else besides what they've been going with... including *gasp* recalling Jason Akeson.

I've said it before: Wanting a higher draft pick by losing is an excruciating process, and I have no idea how people actually want to do it.
Being a bad team is horrifying, with no guarantee that the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow isn't a batch of iron pyrite |

In my view what's worse then being a bad team, is a team that is a bad team that is capable of being a good team. That's much worse in my view, and how I consider the Flyers. They came out on the opening puck drop and outplayed and skated the Canucks for the first 5 minutes of the 1st period, or so. One goal and they deflated like a balloon. |

I'm not against a change, but for that net front spot on the PP, Umberger is a better choice the Laughton is. The problem with the 2nd unit is that they lack a playmaker on it, and the have trouble getting set up to get zone attack time. I don't see adding Laughton in place of Umberger changing that. - MJL
They totally lack a playmaker, so they should put guys out there who hustle and can skate to battle for puck. Hamburglar doesn't do that. Just because he is bigger than say Raffl and Laughton...that should not grant him an automatic spot on PP.
The coach has to kick his love for Hamburglar. It's at the half way point. Let's try something different |

Surely Akeson is en route, after 7 consecutive scoreless periods, and the poopshow that was Zac Rinaldo last night right? |

Sorry, but Ray should have had the Bonino goal.
Also, shuffling the personnel on the bottom two lines and caring who plays with who at this point is akin to switching deck chairs on the Titanic. This team simply isn't good enough. Even blaming Berube, at this point, is borderline intellectually lazy and an easy target because Berube is considered a meat head.
Face it: There is no combination of the existing talent on a particular line or defense combination that is gonna make this any better. |

Is it today where we find out if Timonen might play this year? I know it won't matter for making the playoffs etc, but I would like to see him finish the year playing and allow the fans to properly send him off at the end of the season. |

Emery was way off his angle on that goal, he gave up half the net. |

They have some good pieces, but not enough of them in the right spots. They're not amongst the very worst teams in the league, and they should be a little better than they are, but being honest, especially when you factor in a few injuries, they are within the range of where they should be.
It's unfortunate, because they need to make the kinds of incremental upgrades that aren't always easy to find

Exactly. I was there and it happened at my end of the ice. It was painfully obvious that Emery should have had it.
Even with Bonino's move, as nice as it was, MDZ actually stayed with him pretty well. It wasn't like MDZ got pyloned or posterized or whatever the kids call it these days. |

They don't have the right mix of players, that's for sure. Upgrading the defense is going to be the toughest area of improvement. |

This is, essentially, where I am. There's only so much that can be done with this roster, and the coach isn't the reason that it's floundering.
This just isn't their year, and they have to find a way to find three or four upgrades to various personnel for this to become a playoff/Cup contender.
They're not hugely far away. But they're not as close as any one of us would like

40 goaltenders currently qualify in the save % department. Must have played in at least 14 games. Emery is dead last in save % at .885. He's shot. |

Actually, Del Zotto didn't stay with it. Bonino got away from him to get the shot on net. It should've been a routine stick block, but Del Zotto was a good stride off of Bonino when he shot it. Still a save that should be made. |

Not tough if they just keep drafting, developing and staying patient.
