Not while he can watch his kids play a few years of hockey first and just enjoy it. |

Nothing for him to play for except his own desire to go out on his own terms. Which for a guy like Timonen, is a pretty big thing.
From what I know of the situation, I agree it'd seem irresponsible to allow him to play at this point. But that's in no way a professional opinion. I do get where Kimmo's coming from, though.
I had to stop playing due to injury, and even though I was nothing more than a recreational level guy, it sucks not being able to play. Especially since it's not a case where it's an injury limiting what you can do, but rather an injury that can be triggered by normal action in a game - Jsaquella
I guess I can understand why Timo wants to go out on his own terms, skates first, as he stated a while ago.
I must be hard to end a terrific career with an injury but it's something every player in every sport must be willing to accept and I'm sure Timo will as well if the news is not of his liking.
That said, a large part of me hopes he gets his clean bill of health he's looking for but decides not to return. Even with the doctor's OK, there will always be a great risk associated with his kind of affliction.
Hopefully it will be enough for Timo to find out he can suit up, and that it would be he, and not the doctors, who makes the decision to retire. |

If he does get cleared, I doubt he would just retire. He wants to play. I get that, I get the itch whenever I see kids playing in the street or at a rink or skatng center. |

As do I, but quickly thereafter, my wife's voice starts to resonate somewhere deep in my brain that she'd be happy to scratch that itch with a chainsaw. |

I would say watching Berube a few nights a week would be the activity where you would be most apt to banging your head. |

I could suit up from time to time for benefit games, but my wife enjoyed watching that just for the comedic effect.

You say backfire like they took some huge gamble. This was the smartest decision to make based on where the Sixers were and the assets they had.
The NBA is different from the NHL because 1 or 2 star players in the NHL won't make the team a contender or even a playoff team (2014-15 Flyers).
2 stars in the NBA make every team a playoff team and likely a finals contender. - PhillySportsGuy
This is the best way to go about building a contender if your the sixers. People forget that the sixers aren't an attractive free agent destination. They have to borrow their practice facility I believe. In the nba it's much harder to just sign a top free agent, it doesnt go to the highest bidder Bc there are max deals, and many teams can make the necessary room to sign a player to a max deal. Sixers would never be able to sign the big fish. Just the brands, Bynums, etc |

So Marc Staal is getting locked up on a 6 year deal worth north of 5.7 mil. That's some pretty good scratch. |

Sure until the NY taxes take a nice chunk of it, but still a nice deal. |

76ers 4-3 in their last 7. I love what the GM is doing, but love the fight in these players. If the Flyers go full tank maybe they'll start winning! |

If they do it right, and with some luck, yeah. 1-2 years of being this bad... another 1-3 years of steadily getting better. Flyers fans have suffered through worse. - Tomahawk
I think it can be done much faster. The rest of this year and next would be a complete tank. The year after though, 2016-2017 this team can be a riser although another year just out of the playoffs is probably. From then on they could be serious contenders. If they can add an elite defender and an elite center/forward at the top of the next two drafts plus some extra early picks for depth throughout, you will have a true contender by 2017-2018. |

To win a cup, you need an elite center, a great 2nd line scoring threat, and a strong two way defensive center. Flyers have 2 of those. On defense you need two strong pairs with one dominate defender. I think Sanheim is definitely a top 3 guy. Morin and Ghost look promising but both have some holes in their skill set. Getting another top both two way guy should be a priority. |

No matter how elite in talent that defender is that they would draft in the next two drafts, that player is not going to be elite as an NHL defenseman in that time span. Looking at closer to 5 years for that player to get to that point. Look at Seth Jones and how highly touted he was. Not even close to being an elite defenseman in the NHL, at this point. |
