I think Embiid will be fine.

No matter what, they will be in way better position than when Hinkie first took over. Sixers have last year's ROY and they have 3 of the top 15 rookies this year. They will likely have 3 of the top 10 rookies next year.

Edmonton Oilers have had a lot of top rookies also.

Dreger Report is interesting because it will be fascinating to see just how deep the Coyotes cut -- they do have some interesting pieces out there

If healthy, he'll be a beast. If they win the lottery and get Okafor, I'm setting the parade route.

Different sport and different management. Sixers are smart and understand you need more than just a bunch of scorers to win.

Doesn't matter that it's a different sport and management. The point is that having a bunch of good rookies and draft picks doesn't guarantee anything in pro sports, regardless of what sport it is.

I think we can all agree on this: The Flyers need different, and better, options for L4. That has to be something they can do.
- AllInForFlyers

Absolutely, which is all that was being said. It immediately got taken to an extreme. Not that that is a surprise.

There's no guarantee changing it would be worse or better. But what is out there isn't very effective. Rather than accept it, why not consider changes that might be beneficial overall.

Maybe lessening the burden of other lines leads to them scoring more often.

Ha! Man, we all just want this team to get better. You guys are all my crazy brothers-in-arms in this thing. We won't always agree and we might want to kill each other at times, but I'd stand next to any one of you in the parade route

Weigh that against all the other teams that have won the lottery over the past dozen or so seasons and see where they're at in the standings right now

There are also more than just one example of teams that refused to do a rebuild and are stuck in eternal mediocrity as a result.

Timonen underwent tests today, says doesn't know results. It'll be tonight or tomorrow he says. "I left my cell phone in car. I'm nervous."

Nothing was taken to an extreme. Berube only has so many options to choose from. You posted the question from Twitter on why Berube doesn't want to change the 4th line. A reasonable explanation was given, as to why he wants to stick with that line, based on the personnel he has available to him. I think the reporter or media guy or whoever would be better served taking some time to think about the situation before tweeting and making himself look foolish.

He's not playing -- with them where they are, there's nothing for him to play for that would merit risking his health

Even if he is cleared, I truly think it is irresponsible to let him play. Those clots are nothing to fool around with

Well one team, the Pens, got Mario Lemieux, who is more then just a top player. And notice that I did not state that the direction the Sixers have taken WILL backfire on them, only that there is the potential to backfire. I also recognize that if they make the right moves and decisions, they could set themselves up for a run at it.

I don't think the Flyers will let him put himself at risk. If Timonen thought that he wasn't going to play, he wouldn't be so nervous about it. He wants to play, and I think he will play if he can get clearance, and they can find a way for him to play.

Nothing for him to play for except his own desire to go out on his own terms. Which for a guy like Timonen, is a pretty big thing.

From what I know of the situation, I agree it'd seem irresponsible to allow him to play at this point. But that's in no way a professional opinion. I do get where Kimmo's coming from, though.

I had to stop playing due to injury, and even though I was nothing more than a recreational level guy, it sucks not being able to play. Especially since it's not a case where it's an injury limiting what you can do, but rather an injury that can be triggered by normal action in a game

You say backfire like they took some huge gamble. This was the smartest decision to make based on where the Sixers were and the assets they had.

The NBA is different from the NHL because 1 or 2 star players in the NHL won't make the team a contender or even a playoff team (2014-15 Flyers).

2 stars in the NBA make every team a playoff team and likely a finals contender.

Need far more then 2 players to make a contender. You do make a good point that they don't have a lot to lose. My only point is that the Sixers strategy is not a guarantee of anything. They could possibly remain in a cycle of mediocrity, just as they could develop into a contender.

Exactly. Whereas, if they kept with what they had been doing, they were guaranteeing themselves mediocrity.

Maybe, maybe not. They still would have gotten in a good first round drafting postion without trading away a lot of players. Have to see what they do with the cap space. How often does a player drafted in the 2nd round of the NBA draft pan out?
