Not necessarily wanting to do "The Homer Dance" today, but I think it's harsh to say he destroyed the organization. At what point do you lay the blame on the players?

When Matt Read signed that extension, pretty much everyone was happy. No one told him to play like ass for 90 percent of this season. Nobody told Andrew MacDonald to turn himself into a healthy scratch. Same with Luke Schenn -- nobody told him not to improve.

Were there some red flags on some of the players Homer got? Sure. But nobody was asking some of these underachievers to become superstars, like Voracek. It would have been nice if some of these guys had just found ways to do their jobs at somewhere even (frank)ing close to their draft status and salary level.

With Mase hurt they have a legit shot at a top five pick.

I disagree with people who say they aren't trying, I think the effort is there but they really aren't good enough to beat teams who have a decent goalie and a competent defense. They can score against the really poor goaltenders but that is about it.

They are a smallish team forward wise and can get pushed around by bigger teams, like the recent Caps game.

But they are also slow and don't get in on forechecks well, often they are there late.

G and Jake at 5v5 can be shut down by good teams. Even the first PP gets shut down by good teams.

The one truly exciting prospect we might have gotten a chance to see this year after the shot a playoffs were over blows up his knee. Until they have someone from the blueline who can get a puck through to the net they will be easy to shut down.

Very ugly to watch.

In the last few games there have been plenty of shots on net from the point with no traffic in front. I think the reason why they're struggling to score is that the Flyers forwards are playing a perimeter game, and aren't getting to the net and the dirty areas for high percentage chances, screens, deflections, and rebounds. Rather then the defense not generating enough shots.

FYI for the Netflix crew, I see the 2nd season of The Fall is now available. Worth the watch if you like shows such as The Killing, Whitechapel, Wire in the Blood, etc.

You might be a fan of Steve Valiquette's shot-quality project:

All I need to watch the game. Analytics, or Advance stats, or whatever are a small part of forming my opinions, as they should be.

Hey, thought you would be a fan, since it's based on Vally (former player) watching all the games... but nevermind I guess.

Be nice if a few more players actually showed the ability to be part of the solution instead of being replacement level or, even worse, part of the problem

They're just not bad enough for it to matter -- if it is true that Arizona is going to strip it to the walls, the Flyers just aren't worse than them, Edmonton and Buffalo

Fully expect them to pick 8th-12th, which makes all of this misery pointless

This draft is deep, so I'm not down on picking in that range.

Drafting higher in the order will help them in later rounds as well because you can never draft Z3 soon enough.

This won't be popular, but I sure hope it's a case of them being certain he can't help, as opposed to the style of play he brings, as to why he isn't signed. Because let's be honest: right now, the Flyers shouldn't be turning away any prospect who can skate and is willing to go into hard areas

I'm being sarcastic and serious there at the same time. Value it or don't, you're being a myopic turd if you think this is a Flyers exclusive thing. It's not like our front office has been staffed by cavemen while 29 other teams are using supercomputers and laboratories to arrive at pure diluted correctness in their hockey decisions.
- BulliesPhan87

I just meant that those two attributes are, IMO, what is missing. If everyone played with them, perhaps the team dynamic would change. Just a thought.

He's probably a good kid and might even be good organizational depth.

He would have probably been available in the 7th round, though. His draft position is not his fault. That's the Flyers' fault.

They're probably going to get a stupid good return for both Vermette and Michalek. Wish the Flyers had more (good) guys on expiring deals to sell at the TDL.
