I think they have a soft spot for him because he works hard and wants to get better everyday. He's also a team first guy who will do anything to win.
The contract isn't really a big deal. I'm sure Berube lobbied for it and the team didn't really care because he can be waived without a problem.
One of the reasons I want an outsider to come in and coach is so there is no bias towards certain players. - PhillySportsGuy
Peter White, Brett Hextall, Nick Lukko.... Zac's the Chairman's (illegitimate) son -- it's really the only explanation. |

The Flyers made a non risky short term investment in Rinaldo. They like his physical tools and skating ability. They are trying to develop him into a physical all around player for the 4th line. Regardless of what some want to say, he does have some hockey ability. If he didn't, he would've never made it to the NHL. - MJL
Rinaldo can only dream of ascending to the stratosphere of a player who notched a whopping 1 point in an 18 playoff game run. #differencemaker |

Sure, I wish the outcome were different, but really I don't have a problem with MDZ there. - Scoob
IMO... That is a save Emery HAS TO MAKE!
MDZ kept him to the outside, he didnt bite on the spin-o-rama or anything. Emery just over commited to the short side, left the far side wide open for an easy shot and goal. |

Nor do I. It was a pretty damned good move by Bonino. I think that one is on Emery. |

Same, the gap was reasonable. Great 1v1 move by Bonino, crap goal by Razor. |

If it's the person Im thinking of, it's a woman. They were sensible questions that really point out what the fallacies and issues are with stats like that.

In my opinion Hextall isn't going to extend a player based on a coach lobbying for the player, who he doesn't even know if he will be here long term as head coach. - MJL
I think Hexy thought he could get him signed early in order to save some money without guaranteeing a roster spot.
If Rinaldo played a solid season and was able to contribute, he may have been in line for more than the waiver amount.
The contract becomes a bargain if Rinaldo becomes a real contributor and it can be buried if he ends up being a fringe NHLer. I think he felt it was a no lose situation. |

Haha, it's definitely gotten a lot more aggressive today.
This site is the reason why I discovered adblock in the first place... damned auto-plays. Now auto-directs. Nah, I'm not white listing until the site is usable w/o it.

I for the life of me don't understand why he was given a contract extension coming off such a miserable season. When you are at best a fringe NHL player, how bout making the player earn his next contract? Rewarding him after a season of regression made zero sense. And he's showed absolutely no sign this year of improving. Is it the end of the world having him on the team? No, is there bigger problems, yes. It just sets a bad precedent signing a player that has no value. - PLindbergh31
And here we completely agree. 'Why is he here?' is the only question that needs to be asked. I can't find a decent answer. |

Seriously. I'd be glad to whitelist the site if the ads weren't so intrusive. Ads in general suck, but we all get the point that some sites rely on them for revenue. There are plenty of interstitial ads or banner ads that aren't horrible or disruptive they could be using. Redirects (especially on mobile devices) are just low class and awful. |

In the NHL, that is not sticking with your man. He loses stick positioning on the play when he goes for the poke check, and allows a clear shooting lane. It's not an egrogious play, as it was a nice move, but he lost him nonetheless. A save should've been made on the play, as Emery lost his angle, so he is at fault also. it' one play, and you're right, he isn't Lidstrom. Even the best of defenseman aren't going to play mistake free hockey. That's life as a defenseman. - MJL
Fair enough. I agree with you for the most part, but it's my opinion MDZ stuck with him and got beat by a better play. A fine line perhaps. |

He is here because he is a cheap player on a contract they can waive with no problem. Sure maybe they can get another player with more skill but then your probably paying more. And for a team that is close to the cap its a player who can play on the fourth line or for some games at the drop of a hat. |

The site needs a new revenue stream (or two) if they are relying upon ad views and/or clicks to pay the bills. |
