If I was the Wild, I'd be calling Buffalo, St Louis & Carolina looking for a goalie. Even league average tending gets them in the mix
- Jsaquella

Yeah, this is why it makes zero sense for ppl to be calling for Yeo's head. What's he supposed to do? Strap on the pads himself?

Another aspect is injuries to the pieces the Flyers could concievably move. If Schultz blows out his knee next week, he's got no trade value.

Saying they should make winning as much as they can now, over development and gaining assets is just odd to me. That kind of short sighted mentality is part of the reason why they're a mess now

- Jsaquella

Yep. That is certainly a possibility. If you wait, a player can become injured, and you end up getting no assets for them.

There have been a few small trades so far, but I don't think the market has developed yet. I hope Hextall is shopping players who he doesn't view as part of the core going forward.

On the other side of that coin, that's why I'm not dying for them to finish last overall. Last place only has (about) twice as much a chance of landing the first overall pick as fourth to last. As long as they're in that range, they have a decent shot at The Chosen One.

And even if they don't get him, they're going to land a solid pick regardless.

- BulliesPhan87

If they finish last, they're guaranteed Eichel or McDavid

You can't run a team on the hypothetical that a totally healthy player might blow out his knee. The demand for rental dmen will be strongest around the trade deadline, just like always.

I don't think the Flyers will make the playoffs and I want them to sell off two defensemen. But I'm not going to bash Hextall for not selling yet when we haven't even got to the All-Star game.

It's still too early I have a hard time picking on a 19 yoa. I like the mix of D prospects, and I like the thought of a mean nasty Dman on the back end even if he's not in the mold of a Doughty, OEL, etc. Now Vinny, RJ, Coburn, Read, Grossman it's open season.
- Just5

Morin can become the top Dman selected in that draft for all we know. As of right now, based on what I saw (granted small sample size) I like the tools Morrissey has better. Does that mean I'm saying Morin is a stiff? Of course not.

I'd be just as happy w/ Eichel. IMO, he's a better fit for what the Flyers need (pure sniper-ificness).

Having watched both at the WJ's they both look to be great players. What is the opinion on which is more of a "cant miss". It seems that it would be McDavid just based on where he is playing and what he is doing. Is it the same opinion of Eichel?

I just hope they embrace a rebuild rather than trying to make the playoffs next year

I want a top 4 pick.

Unfortunately I just can't see us ending the season picking any higher than 6th, save a lottory win.

The great Vince Lombardi said this. He couldn't be more correct.

"There is no second place. Either you're first, or you're last."

- PLindbergh31

Well, I don't think he was referring to the "best at losing" contest, and we sure as poop don't have a shot at actual first. Last year's Sabres and the 2006-07 Flyers would say best loser doesn't assure you anything, and the odds at the top pick were better for them than they are this year.

I'd feel confident in both to become impact players.

I, myself, would take McDavid simply because puck possession players seem to control the game more than snipers. I think McDavid is the better puck possession player.

I would be thrilled with either

I see them finishing between 5-10. No worse than 5 (devils currently 5th).

That's true, but I don't know that the Flyers are bad enough to run with the big dogs of losing. Short of Giroux and Voracek getting hurt or losing their passion (oh please god no), I think our best chance is with the ping pong balls.

I'm glad Rinaldo has been a healthy scratch, but that extension makes even less sense now. Yes it can be buried in the minors with no cap hit and is not actually a problem. But it's easily the oddest thing Hextall has done so far. Why not wait and see how this season went for Zac first?

Definitely. The Sabres goal differential shows how bad they really are. Even if G missed two months with an injury, I don't think it would be enough to catch them

I think they took a homerun swing and thought they could turn him into a really effective PK guy and that obviously failed.

It's not odd at all, not is it shortsighted. Should they keep players out of the lineup, because they might get hurt. Is it far to Giroux and Voracek for the team to pull the plug now? The front office should do what they do, and the coach and the players should come to the rink everyday with the goal of winning the game. Everything else will take care of itself. As they get to the dealine, more teams and more potential trading partners could be available.

Yeah, doubt anybody can catch them... they are historically bad right now.

EDM's a gong show, but probably not as bad as they look right now. Same w/ Carolina.

And risk a team OSing him this offseason!?!! You'd have to be crazy to take a risk like that

Without G, I could see them reaching as high as #2. With him, they are 7-11 range imo.

Zepp/Emery for the next couple weeks and some tough games coming up might provide the dagger.
