If they did not trade him Puppa and a first for Fuhr, good chance they win a cup in that era

plus they could have picked Allison, Koivu or Bertuzzi with that first rd pick

You know I've said many of times, you don't think Andreychuk helps in that Montreal series?

Bills DL coach Pepper Johnson is interviewing for the Giants' defensive coordinator vacancy Monday.

Johnson, now 50, won two Super Bowls as a linebacker for Giants head coach Bill Parcells and assistant Bill Belichick. He's been coaching ever since retiring in 1998. Other candidates for the Giants' DC job vacated by Perry Fewell include Raheem Morris and Steve Spagnuolo.

You might be right but maybe not in a way that you intended. The year we beat Boston in the playoffs Fuhr came back from injury in the Montreal series and was terrible. Little did we know we had the greatest goalie in the history of the league sitting on the bench. You gotta wonder if we don't make that trade that Hasek becomes Hasek sooner. Who knows, maybe we wouldn't have traded for Hasek at all.

Puppa was 11-5-4 prior to the trade

Fuhr was 11-15-2 after the trade.

It was a case of Johnny Mucks and the old boys club.

In hindsight that is probably right. How many former Oilers did Muck bring in? Simpson, Muni, Huddy, Fuhr.....

We don't end up with Zhitnik then though too.

It's a slippery slope but IMO it might be one of the worst(if not the worst) trades in team history.

To be fair I think you have to remember the context of the time. We were coming off of years of playoff failure and every year we wanted to have a scapegoat at the end of the year. We had already run out all of the other "stars" from the 80's teams. Andreychuk was the last one to go and the fans were generally happy to see him go. It wasn't til he moved that his career picked up again. I am not defending the trade - I just want to point out that there is another side to it.

If we didn't get Zhitnik then Vaclav Varada might have played for more than a couple of years :-).

People forget how good of a defender ol Zhitnik was.

Couldn't hit the broad side of the barn with his shot unless it was his teammates ear.
