One could make the case that Berube has healthy scratched two legit top-4 puck moving defensemen, while letting the guy with the worst ES possession stats of any regular defensemen play every game. Cause he's big. And it's not like he's got the hardest minutes or anything. They went to MacDonald until he got hurt, and then they went to Schultz and Coburn.

Guys like Coburn, Rinaldo and Umberger should sit for a few games............its not like any of those 3 have been unworthy!

Nobody will be taking MacDonald at 5 million a year to play 3rd paring minutes for the entirety of his contract. So that's 5 million pissed away. Add Vinny 4.5, Umberger 4.6, Pronger 4.9, L.Schenn 3.6. This team better draft real well to even be competitive with all that dead space.

An aside: I know they have been atrocious for a couple of years now but when you look at the picks buffalo has had over the last 4 seasons, its incredible. They have 5 1st rd picks the last 3 seasons along with 7 2nd rd picks. They are scheduled to have 3 more in each the 1st and 2nd this season. So 18 1st or 2nd rd picks in a 4 year span. If that team does rebound to being a cup contender, the whole scouting department should be fired.
