fair enough.

if jake asks for the same deal that bobby ryan received, would you give it to him?

I hate not having Capgeek. What was Ryan's deal?

It's panic, and overreactions. This season is just a bump in the road.

I don't understand how it's "easy" to fix the cap issues. How many other GMs are going to trade for those contracts? The Flyers will have at least 2 or 3 serious raises facing them in the summer of 2016. How do multiple buyouts affect that?

Hell, Right now they're about $6mm over the cap with LTIR for Timonen & Pronger.

- Jsaquella

i dont think its easy either. well, i guess it can be considered easy if you think buying it out is easy. the raises could be problematic if you have 4 million of dead space.

That's false. They were not the only two players or situations that were discussed. And he failed to look at a lot of issues that are problems this year. He only talked about what served his narrow agenda.
- MJL

I meant in the scope of the passage you quoted.

And what agenda? Is he secretly eyeing Hexy's chair or something?

not 100 percent sure on the length, but im fairly certain it was pretty similar to letangs. at least 6 or so years at 7 and a quarter.

MacDonald has been solid lately. Schenn may not be here, neither may Lecavalier and Umberger.

He was wrong about that, which I already explained. His agenda to ignore all the factors involved and only write about the ones he wanted to in order to criticize the Flyers.

It's doable, but they're already using LTIR now to ice a team. Yes, counting the "flexibility" gained from that, they can make some moves, but have to utilize an artificial measure to make the cap work.

There's 4 or 5 contracts that are guys simply getting paid more than they are worth at this juncture in their careers. I'm not sure how you can have a full 25% of your team being overpaid and call it good cap management.

im not saying its impossible. but eventually some concessions will have to be made. guys will need raises. that kind of deal will see jake nearly doubling his deal. coots should still be cheapish, since he doesnt have numbers. but he should still get more. same with b schenn. then you have to decide what to do with coburn. he will get more.

i do think the big guns will all be able to be kept. but its those smaller pieces that can get squeezed out, and in one way or the other vinny/umby will put more pressure on that.

no, its not the utter end of the world. no, its not the sole reason the team is struggling. but, its not ideal either.

That's not an agenda. That's called an opinion/point of view.

Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean his motives are inherently nefarious.

Flyers have 7 bonafide NHL defenseman, and there is competition for playing time. 8 if you want to count Colaiacovo. MacDonald has been paired with Del Zotto, which is a pairing I'm not crazy about, in which both players are finesse puck movers. If it's true that Berube wanted more physicality on the defense for the Caps game, that would be the pairing to do it. Last game I thought that Del Zotto played pretty good, and that MacDonald was sub par. So it makes sense to sit MAcDonald and insert Schenn.

I'm here because I can "watch" the game with others. My kids are not much in the way of insight...Dad, Giroux's really good. I like Voracek.

Actually, my kids are already smarter about hockey than 99% of Flyers Facebook posters.

yeah. im willing to cut the management a break on some of them.

read is having an awful year, and this is out of no where. i still maintain that his contract was a good one when given, even though right now it looks like a bad one. (if thats one of the ones youre considering in your 4 or 5)

Some UFA d-men in 2015.

Oduya, 33 years old
Beauchemin, 35 years old
Ehrhoff, 32 years old
Martin, 34 years old
Boychuk, 31 years old
Green, 29 years old
Staal, 28 years old
Sekera, 28 years old
Stuart, 34 years old
Petry, 27 years old

Seems to be the best cream of the crop. Not sure how much movement we can see from the back end though. Will it be worth it long term to move Coburn and have to replace him? Don't see any more interest than that, other than maybe Schultz

It has zero to do with whether I agree with it or not. When an author writes an article that lacks objectivity in looking at all the factors involved, it's an incomplete work, and usually is to serve an agenda. It was a poor piece of work.
