I hadn't heard about a book they read. But, I know that most people say that a team should take a goalie every year. They take the longest to develop. They also have the biggest chance of not living up to expectations.

I have not read (red) a book in over 15 years

Right, but that's just it. They're prospects. They have 2 guys to choose from right now that they can use until they feel one of the prospects are ready.

There are several interpretations to what's been said.

- HonkFortheGoose

Right but he said they are not close. My interpretation is Murray does not like what we have. But thats just me.

I don't think he does either. I also think it's unfair to judge Enroth/Nuevirth on this current team. Neither are as good as Miller was, but that doesn't mean that can't play well on a "good" Sabre team

Not judging. Im just not confident about our future in Net.

Lets say If we would have drafted Demko last draft, then we would have a legit goalie prospect waiting in the wings that could be ready in 2 years. just would be nice to have something like that down the road. As opposed to question marks

"[WGR 550]: Tim, I have no idea what’s going to happen with Miller, obviously. But, you know, assuming he - if he does - move on, either now or at the end of the year, do you feel you have the goalie of the future in the organization right now?

[Murray]: We might. I don’t - I haven’t made that determination yet. We might. We have a couple good young goalies here. There’s certainly - if one of them is the goalie of the future it’s not the near future; it’s a little bit down the road. I don’t think either one of them are ready to, obviously, to step in and start for the Buffalo Sabres. So - goalies are a different animal and a different breed, and it takes time to figure out which guy is that guy and they usually sort it out and it takes a little more time than forwards and defenseman. But, certainly, both young guys here have taken strides. They’re both good size which I like - I like big goalies. So, I think that I have to see the team play a little more than I have to make that determination. That would be the one position that I’m a little iffy on. Not iffy! I’ll waffle on it. I don’t waffle very often but I’m going to just leave that out there and let those guys decide who it is - if it is and who it is."

he passed on demko for lemieux, which tells me something

The sens only drafted 4 goalies in Murray's 6 years with sens (2 in 1 year)

I am not a big fan of Demko. He looked shakey in the big games in his career. The national Championship game and this years World Jrs. He seemed easily rattled.

But then again he is a goalie they are nuts to begin with so who knows.

I thought he had some really good moments. The russian game wasnt the best but you could say that about the whole squad

"if one of them is the goalie of the future it’s not the near future"

That's why I think it's the other guys. If your in the AHL I kind of think that's near future.

Why?

Just curious.

Hoping to lose its one thing. Hoping to get their asses handed to them? Sorry, that's just bizarre.

I think it would be the two below that he is referencing.

Jonas Johansson 6'4" 198lbs 19
Linus Ullmark 6'3" 220lbs 21

Honestly I really think he was referring to Leuwin (6'5) and Knapp (6'5) at the time. Neither look as if they have a future with this team. The focus was who would be replacing miller Within the near future. He said "We have a couple good young goalies here" as in here in north America already (with the Amerks). Went on to say"I don’t think either one of them are ready to, obviously, to step in and start for the Buffalo Sabres"

Why can a goalie not be like a player and develope faster. Why do all goalies needs 5-6 years as you say?

If it takes so long for Goalies to develop why would a team trade us an NHL ready goalie they developed just to start over?
