Would be nice to be rewarded for sitting through an awful season.
- PLindbergh31

Yea. Maybe our reward wont be spending so much time in the shelley suite this time

Berube talks about not wanting him to lead the rush but to just initiate the rush, in my opinion he's a different player. Streit will try and lead the rush at times. Why can't he? I think they need to be more open minded to what he can do, and they certainly will need to be if they ever want to get the most out of ghosts skillset in the future

Double-standards abound.

Ghost will be lucky if Berube's gone by the time he gets here...

It absolutely is. Streit does it routinely, as he should to get the best out of him. MDZ isn't very different

You mean barely ten minutes of ice time or being a healthy scratch isn't good for a rookie?

Berubian school of development.

It's very rare for Streit to lead the rush, he outlets the puck and moves up with it. Streit is not without fault and makes the occasional bad decision, as he did on the Malone goal leading to a 2 on 1 in the Carolina game. As an established veteran in the lineup, Streit is going to get more leeway then Del Zotto will. Agree or disagree with that, it's just the way it is.
They don't need to be more open minded to Del Zotto freelancing. The most dangerous defenseman is a defenseman jumping up into holes, coming late. He has the green light to play aggressively within the team structure, but not make ill advised plays, and leave his teammates out to dry.

I don't think you could've said it better. As in any profession, the person with many more years of experience will get more leeway than the younger fella. And rightly so. I feel like Del Zotto has this yearning to be the next erik karlsson which quite frankly, I don't see happening. I really liked what I saw from him in the first quarter of the season. He seemed like he was comfortable in his own end, was doing well defensively, and was contributing offensively. Personally I didn't see him 'roving' too much, defeinitely not to the extent to how he was scratched for so long. Hopefully he can regain his earlier season form.

Early in the season, Del Zotto was a train wreck defensively. At the end of October into November, Del Zotto hit his stride and was playing great hockey, and the biased coach with the double standard rewarded him with boatloads of ice time. Unfortunately his play regressed to the point where he was scratched. He played a pretty solid game last night, so hopefully, he is back on track. When he's on his game, he adds an element that the Flyers need in the lineup.

Outside of helping to break up fights, somebody please explain to me why high speed cameras and some dude off-ice w/ a TV screen and a button to hit, can't completely replace the linesmen?

I'm sure this current injury isn't linked at all to what happened a few weeks ago.
- PLindbergh31

He averaged over 12 minutes a game, and was only up in an emergency for two games. I don't think it's reasonable to criticize the coach on developing a young player in such a small sample size of games and time.

Why not simply make it a reviewable play when goals are scored? How about giving coaches a challenge like they do in the NFL?

I agree
They review if the puck goes over the line. Why can't they review offsides.
It would solve a lot of controversy

yeah but if you're going to eventually correct/remove everything people can complain about bill's threads would have like 7 posts per blog.

Sure, but doesn't solve the problem of these dummies always getting in the way of plays. 4 on-ice officials is a bit much.

12 min detriot.
12 min against LA.

Tampa. Healthy scratch in place of Manning.

In both played roughly 8minutes less than any other dman. Yeah that's some coaching to get excited about. At least he got more than the 5 minutes Akeson was getting. Lucky bastard.

Same applies. Small sample size to criticize the coach on player development. Gostisbehere was a player that was only up due to injury, and was not ready for the NHL full time.
