I'm having trouble seeing it... in what ways?
- Tomahawk

maybe not so much in their xs and os, Danny's gameplan is basically stretch pass for eternity. its either gonna work or its not.

but in their mentalities towards players, i really do see it. maybe its because they were both muckers and grinders, but they seem to have a tendency to hitch their wagons to certain guys (typically a veteran "effort" guy). these guys have essentially endless amounts of rope, while younger guys are banished for breathing too quickly.

Imagine having tickets for the game tonight??

Snow= check
5 game losing streak = check
No Giroux = check
Rinaldo on top line = check

Ah yeah, that's one similarity for sure.

I really like Disco Dan's coaching demeanor... it's just too bad I'm not sure his tactical philosophy is repeatable w/o high-end skill on the back end.

i really liked dan as far as demeanor goes. ill have to admit i was very jealous when you guys had lavy going nuts, whereas dan basically has the facially expression of a man doing his taxes whether theyre winning or losing, but he really appeared to be a true players coach.

but i guess even that plays out after a while. the iron mike guys wear thin and get tuned out, and the buddy guys eventually lose the line between coach and pal.

and hell, his tactical philosophy was damn hard to put into application even with high end skill on the back end.

I can definitely see that similarity. Bylsma had Adams, Glass, Scuderi. Berube has Umberger, Grossmann, Rinaldo.

The next few tweets are worse:

@Hope_Smoke
(Ron) Wilson "you can't rely on Phil (Kessel). It's just the way he is. Comes & goes & he gets emotional. It effects his game & relationship with players"

Wilson "I kind of think, the proof is in the pudding. Phil's very emotional. When things are going great everyone loves playing with him..."

Wilson "... & when he isn't playing great he's a hard guy to get on board on your side."

Speaking of the Leafs, Carter Ashton on waivers. Former 1st-round pick, 6'3 215 winger, has a scoring touch.

poster child to he what do I know about the draft...he was who I wanted the Flyers to select in 2009 had they had a first round pick. 54 career NHL games and NO goals

I just don't understand why people are so eager to get a recently fired coach in here. There must be an assistant who is ready to take his shot. This team is likely going to suck next year too. I feel they need someone younger with patience who is willing to let guys make mistakes without throwing them in the press box.

A team is always easier to coach with Crosby and Malkin in the line up. Can't stand both of them, but they can play the game.
I would like to see a guy like DeBoer get a shot. He has never had a chance to coach a team with some really skilled guys. I don't know how he got that Devils team to the Cup.. Border was nothing special that year

oh yeah. despres was young and had promise, and bylsma banished him for a week every time he took a penalty, under guys like scuderi and engelland.

and adams, jesus. the two probably are still pen pals.

i do think DB is an NHL caliber coach, but i wouldnt want him if the plan for the next season or two is to work into the fold and develop guys like ghost, morin, and hagg.

I wanted Jon Cooper, Willie Desjardins or Mark Morris when they should have fired Laviolette in the summer of 2013

Lavi should have never been fired because Lavi wasn't the problem. The problem got himself a promotion and a raise while firing Lavi to save his own a$$

I would have liked them to grab Paajarvi. He's not going to score much, but he's a good worker & strong defensively. Good wheels & size to boot. Surprised nobody grabbed him

yeah. this exactly. you need patience and to let them play through it. if they know they are going to be exiled for a single faulty pinch or bad read, they run the risk of trying to change their game and stunting their growth.

and you have a better chance of that if the guy isnt a recently fired coach looking to make an impact and return some shine to his name right away.

When your most frequent linemates are Orr and McClement, it's not easy to get close enough to the net to score.

He's like a bit more talented Tye McGinn. Which is to say he'd be an improvement over some of the guys in the current top-12, and maybe a reclamation worth taking on for the future.

They're hiring a guy they can build with. They need someone with a long shelf life. I would prefer someone who is on board with a rebuild and prefers skill to grit in the lineup

i actually think dan did better as a coach when they werent in the lineup. i think he had problems getting the most out of them, especially in the playoffs. when they were both out and he would take a largely outgunned team and push them on respectable runs, i think he really earned his paycheck the most.

but in the playoffs, especially when he had iginla, he baffled me.

i wouldnt be in the rush for a retread coach, but of them, i think deboer would be the best shot.

This morning when I woke up, there were two guys who I didnt want to see replace Brooby when the inevitable axe falls (whether or not he deserves it is a topic for days of heated argument and name calling later in the week). When I read that RC got canned in Toronto, my list expanded to three.

There is something ineffable and inexplicable about Bylsma that makes me dislike him.. a certain toxic glow, I suppose.

Coach Tortellini is the other candidate I really don't want to see at the helm of the Flyers. However, I have to admit that it would be good fun to see Torts crank up the BBQ for Panotch and Carchidi among others.

Then we need new management because this current administration gave grit a 3 year extension.
